News nybble: Scout out Recce at the Southwest Show
There will be a new application released by Sine Nomine at Saturday’s Southwest Show for use with map-app RiscOSM. The software is designed to allow you to check out a particular place ahead of time if you are planning or considering a trip there, by pulling in photographs from various online sources. Subject to the availabitlity of an internet connection, Sine Nomine’s Matthew Phillips hopes to be able to demonstrate it in use in his theatre talk. Show report: Wakefield 2023
No London Show again? Read about the last Wakefield one instead! Due to circumstances beyond the control of the organisers, last year’s Wakefield Show morphed into the Wradfold show – Wakefield, but in Bradford – and this year, the show carried on in the same location, for much the same reason. It took place on 22nd April at the Cedar Court Hotel in – well, yes – Bradford.
Sine Nomine plans route from Durham to visit ROUGOL on 17th July
Shortest route found: to their desk to use a computer with Zoom installed. Hilary and Matthew Phillips of Sine Nomine will be joining the RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) as the guest speakers for their next meeting, which takes place on Monday, 17th July.
Sine Nomine takes a virtual trip to Wakefield – 6th January
In a break to the regular schedule, the January meeting of the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC) – which is customarily the group’s annual general meeting – will be a regular meeting, with a guest speaker, and to which you are all invited.

While RISC OS may now be regarded as a small, niche operating system, with only a tiny fraction of the number of users that more mainstream platforms attract, it does still have a surprisingly vibrant community – so with that in mind, every once in a while I look through a selection of news groups, mailing lists, and forums, looking for announcements that haven’t found their way to me via the RISCOSitory news inbox, and from those compile a ‘snippets’ post. Show report: Wakefield 2019
Six months on from the show itself… that’s almost as long as the Long Gap between the Wakefield and London shows! Ahem. The place to be for discerning RISC OS users (and retro Acorn enthusiasts) on Saturday, 27th April, was Wakefield – more specifically, the Cedar Court Hotel in Calder Grove – because that was where the annual Wakefield Acorn and RISC OS Computer Show took place.
Show report: Southwest 2019
It was the dawn of the third age of mankind second venue for the RISC OS Southwest Show Since its inception, each and every Southwest Show until this year’s had been held at the Webbington Hotel in Somerset – a grand total of twenty one shows, with twenty years between the first, which took place on 7th February, 1998, and last year’s event, which took place on 24th February, 2018.

RISC OS Awards: Deadline, and an overdue look at the alternative suggestions
The annual RISC OS Awards poll has now been open for just over two months, and is due to be closed fairly soon. Shortly after the poll began I moved home and didn’t properly set up any computers for quite some time, so the planned occasional review and post of the ‘alternative’ entries didn’t happen, other than one quiet afternoon when I scanned through the votes that had been received at that point and tweeted those alternative entries.
