R-Comp’s ARM-based RISC OS laptop lands, allowing its users to take off (or catch a train, whatever) First hinted at by R-Comp‘s Andrew Rawnsley in the run up to last year’s London Show, and then shown off at the event itself, the ARMbook (aka ARMbok due to a typo in an early newsletter) is an ARM-based laptop that runs RISC OS natively1, rather than under emulation on top of another operating system.

The next Bristol RISC OS Users (BRU) meeting will take place on Wednesday, 11th September, from around 7:30pm – and this month’s informal gathering may very well feature some interesting discussions.
R-Comp’s 4té now shipping, with new additional software
The new 4té computer, first shown by R-Comp‘s Andrew Rawnsley at the recent virtual London Show, has now started shipping to customers that have already ordered them – and while R-Comp says it will take two to three weeks to fulfil those back orders, that does mean there is still time to order one if you want yours to arrive in time for Christmas.
Show report: Southwest 2020
I don’t think anyone can possibly disagree with me when I say that 2020, so far, has been an unusual year. Most of the world is in some form of lockdown due to the SARS-CoV-2 (novel coronavirus) pandemic, with movements beyond our homes and interactions with people beyond our own households at a minimum – which means (in a RISC OS context) shows and user group meetings aren’t taking place.
Southwest Show – final round up of pre-show news
As the countdown until this year’s Southwest Show ticks over into the final twenty four hours – the show takes place tomorrow, Saturday, 22nd February at the Arnos Manor Hotel in Bristol – a few press releases and announcements have found their way to me. I can’t spend any real time crafting individual articles this time around, so instead here’s a round-up of show-related news that has come my way since I posted a show preview.

It is now just over a week until the first show of the calendar year takes place – the RISC OS Southwest Show – so why not sit back, relax, and look ahead to who will be there, and what they’ll be showing you? Show report: London 2019
The 2019 RISC OS London Show took place on Saturday, 26th October – and once again (speaking as an exhibitor) seemed to be a buzzing, exciting show with plenty for the visitor to see and experience. It was the 11th London Show, with the first having taken place on 3rd October, 2009, and there was a good mix of exhibitors including large well known RISC OS names and smaller home-based operators. MusicMan pumps up the version (to 2.19)
R-Comp has released an updated version of MusicMan, their software for organising and playing music collections.
Show report: Wakefield 2019
Six months on from the show itself… that’s almost as long as the Long Gap between the Wakefield and London shows! Ahem. The place to be for discerning RISC OS users (and retro Acorn enthusiasts) on Saturday, 27th April, was Wakefield – more specifically, the Cedar Court Hotel in Calder Grove – because that was where the annual Wakefield Acorn and RISC OS Computer Show took place.
