Bristol RISC OS Users meeting – 9th July, 2014.

Announcement from… well, me, actually, on 1st July, 2014. The next meeting of Bristol RISC OS Users (BRU) is Wednesday 9th July, 2014, starting at around 7:00-7:30pm (though some of us may arrive earlier) and continuing until closing time. Meetings are open to one and all, and are simply a group of people with an interest in RISC OS, Acorn, and anything related, getting together for a drink and a natter.

New, improved DrawPrint – new, improved speed

Better, stronger, faster – the Six Million Dollar free Man DrawFile printing utility. Sine Nomine Software, aka Matthew and Hilary Phillips, have released a new version of DrawPrint, their free application for printing DrawFiles, Sprites and JPEGs over multiple pages. The new version, 1.46, brings with it an improvement in the speed at which DrawPrint can handle detailed DrawFiles.

Book proposal: A potted history of Acorn Computers

From little Acorns grow great oaks dead tree publications. David Bradforth has set up a crowd-funding campaign to publish a new book, to be called A Potted History of Acorn Computers. The proposed book will be a 132 page, perfect-bound, full-colour, A4 publication and, according to the Indiegogo page David has set up, his plan is for “a loose deadline of October for the books to ship to the purchasers; this will be the latest date for the final production giving approximately ten weeks [from the date the Indiegogo campaign…

David Holden, RIP

A sad loss for the RISC OS community. It has recently emerged that David Holden, a long standing RISC OS advocate and owner of APDL, passed away on 15th May, 2014, after a short illness, having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer less than six weeks previously. The funeral is being handled by Francis Chappell and Sons, a funeral directors based not far from David’s home in Sydenham, from where he also ran the business, and is taking place tomorrow, Friday, 20th June, 2014 at 10:30 at Brockley and Ladywell Cemetery.

Jim Lesurf’s USB audio apps updated

I bet you thought I hadn’t noticed? Well I hadn’t, until now. Jim Lesurf announced updates to some of his USB audio applications recently – which somehow slipped by RISCOSitory unnoticed until today. The first of these, announced on 29th May, was an update to USBPlayer, an application that allows suitable wave (.WAV, &FB1) files to be played via USB Audio devices that follow the USB Audio standards.
