A brief look at RISC OS Direct

At the 2019 London Show, news broke of something to be called RISC OS Direct – a new distribution (distro) of the operating system, and an accompanying video series. The actual launch of RISC OS Direct happened in February, at the Southwest Show, so should be covered in the show report – but that report is currently still a work-in-progress, and is very late, so it seems eminently sensible to write a little something about RISC OS Direct separately.

Southwest Show – final round up of pre-show news

As the countdown until this year’s Southwest Show ticks over into the final twenty four hours – the show takes place tomorrow, Saturday, 22nd February at the Arnos Manor Hotel in Bristol – a few press releases and announcements have found their way to me. The five talks given at the recent RISC OS London Show were recorded by Leo White, who has now put the videos online so that they can be watched by those unable to make it to the event (or who, as exhibitors, couldn’t step away from their stands in order to watch them). Have ARMbook, will travel

R-Comp’s ARM-based RISC OS laptop lands, allowing its users to take off (or catch a train, whatever) First hinted at by R-Comp‘s Andrew Rawnsley in the run up to last year’s London Show, and then shown off at the event itself, the ARMbook (aka ARMbok due to a typo in an early newsletter) is an ARM-based laptop that runs RISC OS natively1, rather than under emulation on top of another operating system.

Show report: Southwest 2019

It was the dawn of the third age of mankind second venue for the RISC OS Southwest Show Since its inception, each and every Southwest Show until this year’s had been held at the Webbington Hotel in Somerset – a grand total of twenty one shows, with twenty years between the first, which took place on 7th February, 1998, and last year’s event, which took place on 24th February, 2018.
