At the 2019 London Show, news broke of something to be called RISC OS Direct – a new distribution (distro) of the operating system, and an accompanying video series. The actual launch of RISC OS Direct happened in February, at the Southwest Show, so should be covered in the show report – but that report is currently still a work-in-progress, and is very late, so it seems eminently sensible to write a little something about RISC OS Direct separately.

Orpheus Internet is crowdfunding a DataCentre
The RISC OS friendly ISP needs the help of its RISC OS friends. At the start of last month, Orpheus Internet suffered an outage – on 1st July, the company’s servers became unreachable, apparently due to a network IP address issue. That day was a Sunday, of course – and Richard Brown reported on the company’s news page that “It would be nice if this can be rectified on Sunday but I doubt it. I would expect services to gradually resume during Monday and reach 100% Tuesday-Wednesday.”

And it has found a new home… in Bristol! With the most recent Southwest Show having taken place in February, the organisers revealed the date of the 2019 event at the time of the even more recent Wakefield Show last weekend. The date of the next Southwest show will be on 16th February, 2019, so please mark that date in your diaries now. The date of the next show isn’t the only thing to be revealed, though. As this year’s Wakefield Show drew near, news emerged of a new company – RISC OS Developments Ltd – formed by R-Comp’s Andrew Rawnsley and Orpheus Internet’s Richard Brown, with an extra theatre slot set aside for Richard to explain why the company was set up, what it’s purpose is (to a certain extent; full details were, and still are, subject to a non-disclosure agreement), and how people could help.
