The time is almost here to say goodbye to 2023 and welcome in a whole new year, which we should probably call ‘2024’ – and if we’re looking at a new year, we may as well start thinking about the RISC OS shows that we’ll be attending, the first of which is usually the Southwest Show.
25th February 2023 saw the RISC OS Southwest Show return to the Arnos Manor Hotel in Bristol. This was the first time the event has taken place since just before the Covid pandemic hit the UK, with the last one pretty much on the eve of the plague landing on our shores in early 2020.

We’re fast approaching the end of 2022, and the final RISC OS show of the year – the London Show, organised by the RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) – was originally scheduled to take place next Saturday, the 29th October. However, due to the venue being unavailable until some months into next year, and no suitable alternative having been found, the event has had to be cancelled. So is it now 4té-something-Tools? Were there 4té of them before? With a trip to Amsterdam1 coming up, to attend the Big Ben Club RISC OS eXperience, at which R-Comp‘s Andrew Rawnsley is planning to show off 4téTools as part of his talk, the company has announced a new version of the software. Sporting a range of new features for both 4té and Sixteen Hundred 4té2 users, the software is now at version 1.19.
Three shows are scheduled for the remainder of 2021, that you may wish to mark in your diaries – two expected to place in the UK, and one in The Netherlands.
I don’t think anyone can possibly disagree with me when I say that 2020, so far, has been an unusual year. Most of the world is in some form of lockdown due to the SARS-CoV-2 (novel coronavirus) pandemic, with movements beyond our homes and interactions with people beyond our own households at a minimum – which means (in a RISC OS context) shows and user group meetings aren’t taking place.
The 2019 RISC OS London Show took place on Saturday, 26th October – and once again (speaking as an exhibitor) seemed to be a buzzing, exciting show with plenty for the visitor to see and experience. It was the 11th London Show, with the first having taken place on 3rd October, 2009, and there was a good mix of exhibitors including large well known RISC OS names and smaller home-based operators. You read it here first, folks – unless you’re observant! The Wakefield Show – billed as the North’s Premier RISC OS Show – is set to go ahead again in 2016, with the date now confirmed for what will be the 21st show to be arranged by the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club.
A Fistful of Dollars allows you to run The Gauntlet with an early version! Although the new computer from CJE Micro’s is not yet complete, there are apparently (and unsurprisingly) people eager to get their hands on what is expected to be the fastest ever RISC OS computer to date – so Chris Evans says that they will be launching an Early Adopter Scheme at the Wakefield Show on Saturday, 25th April, 2015.
