The Southampton RISC OS User Group will be holding their next meeting on the evening of Tuesday 14th March, from 7:00pm until 9:00pm at the usual location: Itchen College Sports Centre, Deacon Road, Southampton. In January, Elesar‘s Rob Sprowson paid a visit to the RISC OS User Group of London to talk about CloudFS, and another ‘mystery’ product, later revealed to be font management system Font Directory Pro, originally from LOOKsystems. At that point, a new version of the software was ready, and the only remaining task before it could be released was converting the large user manual. AMCOG Games’ Tony Bartram has released an updated beta [zip] version of his Wavebox-inspired synthesiser module, RDSP. The module provides modern RISC OS computer systems with the means to both synthesise sounds, and play back sound samples with various effects applied to them. The latest version – the second beta release – adds support for modulating samples via BASIC’s ENVELOPE command, support for sample looping (which means a simple drum loop, for example, can be made to play indefinitely), increases the number of channels to sixteen, and much more. With yet another successful Southwest Show disappearing in the rear view mirror (report coming soon…ish), and the Wakefield Show now looming on the horizon, there has been a small amount of behind the scenes discussion about issues surrounding the RISC OS shows in general. An idea put forward in one of those discussions was for a general mailing list for people to discuss recent and upcoming events – and that idea has now been turned into reality with the RISC OS shows and events discussion list.

Mop Tops gains new levels and sounds in version 1.20

AMCOG games has released a new version of Mop Tops, the company’s most recent game, with more levels, more music tracks, new sound effects, and improved graphics. Launched at London 2016, the game was inspired by Lemmings and involves the player placing various tools and objects on the play area for the titular Mop Tops to interact with, the aim being to guide them to the exit on each level. R-Comp have announced a new network driver for the ARMX6 that can provide a performance boost of between one and a half and ten times.
