Show report: Southwest 2017
Seven months on? This must be some kind of a record! The RISC OS Southwest Show this year took place on 25th February – so this show report sets quite a record for the time between the event and its appearance at just under seven months. Unfortunately, this is a reflection of the amount of time I’ve had available in that intervening period to sit down and write the report. Which is to say: very little. To make matters slightly worse, I usually refer to the photos I’ve taken at…
RISC OS Awards 2016 results
The RISC OS Awards poll for 2016 was brought to a close on 29th February. As before, the results were processed and counted on a RISC OS computer (using a home-brewed program to turn the votes into a file for each category, ready to be loaded into Fireworkz), and initially announced on the @RISCOSitory Twitter feed. Those results are now online on the RISC OS Awards website and the various winners have been notified – where possible – by email.
Show report: London 2016
Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor London? This year’s RISC OS London Show took place on 29th October, and while it wasn’t as large as last year’s event (which I’ll discuss near the end of this report) it was still an enjoyable and worthwhile one. So, without any further preamble, here is a run down of what visitors could have seen, working clockwise from the entrance.
London Show 2016 looms
Feltham’s calling to the faraway towns, come along and see the best OS around! It is now just one week until I’ll be heading home from Feltham (and will have already long since reached home, looking at the time) – which means it’s just five days until I’ll be heading in the direction of Feltham. The day between those two journeys, of course, is when I’ll be in Feltham, exhibiting at this year’s London Show, organised by the RISC OS User Group of London – and here’s why you, the…
ROUGOL goes back in time
Well, sort of – through emulation, not temporal manipulation! Realising that people can’t time travel – not even within their own lifetime – members of the RISC OS User Group of London will step into the Quantum Leap Accelerator Blue Eyed Maid and, rather than vanish, will find themselves enjoying a presentation about a BBC Micro emulator for Android devices.
Two weeks to go: RISC OS Southwest 2024
As of today, the 2024 Southwest Show – the first main event of the year for the RISC OS community – is just two weeks away. It will take place on Saturday, 24th February, at the same Bristol venue that has been used for the show for the last few years:
Repetition made easy with Makro 2.01
Fred Graute has released version 2.01 of a utility called Makro, which allows simple string sequences to be defined, and then played back as often as needed as though they had just been typed in – much like we used to do with the BBC Micro function keys.
Defend Earth from the Chronites in TIMERUN from AMCOG Games
Adding to an ever growing list, the latest title from AMCOG Games is TIMERUN, and it had its first public release at the recent MUG RISC OS Xmas Market, and is now available to buy from !Store, priced at £9.99.
Titanium PC and keyboard offer from Elesar
If you’ve been pondering a new RISC OS computer, there are quite a range available, but most new hardware is based on the operating system having been ported to an ARM-based platform that exists for other reasons (or other operating systems). Similarly, if you’d like a new keyboard, there are plenty to choose from, but almost none with a RISC OS connection.
