Chris Evans recently initiated discussions on the RISC OS Open forum and the comp.sys.acorn.misc usenet group about the possibility of moving RISC OS shows away from their current ‘real world’ space, and into the online world – taking them virtual. In a reversal of the proposed direction, the RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) plans to follow-up that online discussion in the real world, by making it the topic of their next meeting, which takes place from 7:45pm on Monday, 18th March – tomorrow – at the usual location:…

It’s AGM time in Wakefield
If you’re a member, and if you can find them, maybe you can visit… the AGM! It’s the time of year when the most formally (read: properly) run user group in the world of RISC OS holds a meeting it labels as members only: It’s time for the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club‘s Annual General Meeting. This is the opportunity for members to review the Club’s activities, and so on, for the year that has just passed, and to have a say on the Club’s future, by electing the committee…
Show report: Wakefield 2018
That’s last year’s record for a long-delayed show report broken! This year’s Wakefield Show took place on 21st April, at the Cedar Court Hotel, organised by the local user group – the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC). Like last year, I must apologise for another long-delayed RISCOSitory show report. As ever, this is mainly because of how busy I am outside the world of RISC OS, but also because I wanted to edit down my video recordings of the theatre talks to a more manageable length – and video…
Enjoy some Christmas cheer with ROUGOL
The next meeting of the RISC OS User Group of London will take place on Monday, 17th December – but rather than a normal meeting, with a guest speaker, this last meeting before Christmas has instead been scheduled as the group’s informal Christmas Meal. This is because the normal venue for ROUGOL’s meetings, the upstairs restaurant in the Blue-Eyed Maid, tends to be in high demand at this time of year. Therefore, the group may have to meet downstairs, in the bar – making it an ideal opportunity for those…
RISC OS Developments talks to ROUGOL
Having very recently acquired Castle Technology, and therefore the rights to RISC OS itself, RISC OS Developments Ltd has made people sit up and take notice yet again – after last year doing the same when it announced itself to the world, with the news that it had successfully secured funding for a then unspecified RISC OS project. If you were unable to attend the RISC OS London Show, during which the company’s Richard Brown gave one of the talks – and in so doing packed the room set aside…
Show report: Southwest 2018
Better late than never, but not as late as last year – so that’s something, right? This year’s Southwest Show took place on Saturday, 24th February, at the Webbington Hotel and Spa – the same venue at which it has been held every year since its inception. This year’s show was therefore the 21st, marking twenty years since the very first one, held in February 1998. There was therefore cake – which you missed out on if you didn’t come to the show, and which everyone who was present enjoyed.…
New RISC OS 5 User Guide published
RISC OS is so intuitive to use its User Guide is how big? A new version of the User Guide has been published by RISC OS Open Ltd – the first printed edition since Acorn’s last one in 1996, and one that is bang up to date with the latest stable release of RISC OS, version 5.24 released in April. The new tome is a mighty one, with a total of sixty two chapters and eight appendices, all of which span a total of 616 pages, and it features over…
CJE Micro’s and 4D bringing new toys to Wakefield
Well, newish – the first time at this particular show. Having missed the recent Southwest Show, CJE Micro’s and 4D will be at the Wakefield Show this Saturday, and will be bringing along two products for their first ever trip to the show, having been released since the last one.
RISC CE + Wispy = Wispy CE
It’s simple maths, innit? In the wake of the recent Recursion and Southwest shows, and the launch of the CE range, Ident Computer‘s Tom Williamson and RISCOSbits‘ Andy Marks have recognised a degree of overlap in some of their product range and, rather than compete, have put their heads – and their overlapping products – together.
Steve Fryatt talks PD software at Wakefield on 4th April
Plus EGM to debate Constitution change to bring it into the 2000s – just as we approach the 2020s!1 The Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club will be holding their next meeting on Wednesday, 4th April – the first Wednesday of the month, as usual, though the nature of the meeting will be slightly unusual.
