The next meeting of the RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) will take place on Monday, 20th May – tomorrow evening – and this month rather than a formal speaker, the meeting will take the form of an open discussion. Attendees will be able to hold general discussions about RISC OS and recent news, and undoubtedly those who were able to attend last month’s Wakefield Show will be able to regale those who weren’t with news of what they saw.

Andrew Conroy releases BASIC library for the Raspberry Pi JAM HAT
Encouraging people to be as flashy as he is when his boss isn’t around! Observant readers and show visitors will have noticed that Andrew Conroy has started occasionally having his own presence at RISC OS computer shows – when CJE Micro’s, the company for which he works, isn’t present. What he exhibits is a range of personal projects interfacing with the Raspberry Pi.

That game is Escape from the Arcade – something you wouldn’t have to do if you didn’t get trapped inside an arcade machine, and that happened because you chose to play a faulty machine. Oops. Fred Graute has released version 2.09 of Transient, a utility designed to present an easy to access, temporary storage location on your hard drive – but one that is, er, less transient than the RAM drive, as the files stored there don’t disappear when the computer is shut down. The program creates a new subdirectory each day, and anything saved within is kept until you choose to delete them – or, if you choose the Logan’s Run option, until they reach a certain age.

Kevin Wells has released a new version of MACadd, his application for looking up and displaying public information about MAC addresses, giving it a bigger address field, and rather than the country code, it now displays the country name. It also now benefits from the addition of interactive help. In order to work, the software needs wget installed, because it looks up the necessary information from the MAC Vendors website.
