Portsmouth’s first RISC OS show

Putting Portsmouth on the RISC OS map. The first ever RISC OS show in Portsmouth took place on 28th September, 2013- and it seems to have been a successful one, with both exhibitors and visitors reflecting positively about the event. The venue itself, the second floor of Innovation Warehouse Portsmouth, was comparatively small, offering a much more limited amount of space than other RISC OS shows, but the number of exhibitors filled the space very neatly, giving a good balance of things to see and people to talk to versus…

OS updates from R-Comp

Three! Count ’em! And new micro-SD cards, too! Just prior to the Midlands Show, R-Comp announced that “Super Pack 6” was available for owners of the original ARMini computer, as well as BeagleBoard users who have subscribed to the BeagleBoard Support Scheme, shortly followed by the option to upgrade to 16/32GB micro-SD cards. Later in the same month, the second OS upgrade for members of R-Comp’s PiPlus scheme was made available, that being a similar arrangement as the BeagleBoard Support Scheme, but for Raspberry Pi owners. Portsmouth show date confirmed

Set a new date for your diaries: 28th September, 2013 Following RISC OS Open Limited‘s announcement of a proposed new show to be held in Portsmouth, originally slated for 20th July, which would have put it a mere week after the Midlands Show and may have proven difficult for exhibitors, the idea was taken back to the drawing board and some possible new dates considered, with 21st and 28th September being offered up as possibilities.

Midlands show report

Organise it and they a handful of them will come. It’s now been two weeks and a day since the Midlands Midsummer MUG Show 2013 took place, and people are telling me that it’s about time I sat down and wrote about it! Well, they aren’t, perhaps because I’ve already said in various places that I’m busy, but they’re probably thinking it. So here’s that report. I’ve flicked a coin, and it told me to take an anti-clockwise tour around the show.

PackMan update and test of drag and drop installation

Drag and not-drop added, not-drop not dropped, but drag and real-drop added. Sort of. In May, Alan Buckley released an update to PackMan, his alternative package manager to RiscPkg for downloading and installing RISC OS applications and other resources. Since then, he has also released a test application which shows a proof of concept of how drag and drop installation might work in future versions of PackMan, asking for feedback on the idea.

ROUGOL taking RISC OS to Silicon Dreams – this weekend (updated)

We’ll always be together, together in electric silicon dreams* If you are in the vicinity of Coalville in Leicestershire any time from 5th – 7th July (today until Sunday), a place that could be worth a visit is Snibston  Discovery Museum, Ashby Road, Coalville, LE67 3LN. The reason? This weekend marks the 2013 Silicon Dreams and Vintage Computer Festival, a combined event that “celebrates our silicon chip age.” The festival is obviously not limited to RISC OS, but amongst the exhibitors are ROUGOL – the RISC OS User Group of…
