It was the dawn of the third age of mankind second venue for the RISC OS Southwest Show Since its inception, each and every Southwest Show until this year’s had been held at the Webbington Hotel in Somerset – a grand total of twenty one shows, with twenty years between the first, which took place on 7th February, 1998, and last year’s event, which took place on 24th February, 2018.

Summer party in London – tonight
Party time, time runs out, everybody’s infected invited1 It’s a very last minute announcement, but the next meeting of the RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) is tonight (Monday, 19th August, from 7:45pm) and because it’s one of those rare meetings for the group where there is no formal speaker, the evening is being billed as a summer party.
RISC OS Awards 2017 results
The latest RISC OS Awards poll, covering 2017, came to a close a on Saturday, 26th May – and the results are now known. The Awards website has been updated to show the results, and the winners (for whom I have contact details) will be notified by email later today, with direct links to the results so that they can be referred to on the their own websites. The results have already been announced on the RISCOSitory Twitter feed, but for anyone not using Twitter they are below.
News nybble: Imagery given kiss of life
Rick Murray has dug out an old graphics application, Imagery, that was originally a commercial package and subsequently released on an Acorn World cover disc in 1993. With some basic – or in this case BASIC – hacking, the application now works again on modern systems. For more details – and a link to download – have a read of this thread on the RISC OS Open forum.

Show reports and discussions at ROUGOL – Monday, 15th May
It’s not only Smarties that have the answer – ROUGOL does too! If you want to know what happened at last month’s Wakefield Show, a reasonable approach would be to read the RISCOSitory report – but I haven’t written it yet. The workload here in the bunker is such that the report is still to be written for the earlier Southwest Show – so the Wakefield one might be a while. You could also look at the videos of the theatre talks, but apart from one, I haven’t even watched…
Happy birthday, RiscPC- you’re 20 years old today!
And, for many people, you’re still going strong. The RiscPC was the most powerful computer Acorn ever put into production, and it was officially launched twenty years ago today, on Friday, 15th April, 1994. according to Acorn’s April 1994 Developers’ Newsletter and the date of their announcement on usenet. RISCOSitory takes a look back over its twenty year (so far) life.
Two weeks to go: RISC OS Southwest 2024
As of today, the 2024 Southwest Show – the first main event of the year for the RISC OS community – is just two weeks away. It will take place on Saturday, 24th February, at the same Bristol venue that has been used for the show for the last few years:

No London Show again? Read about the last Wakefield one instead! Due to circumstances beyond the control of the organisers, last year’s Wakefield Show morphed into the Wradfold show – Wakefield, but in Bradford – and this year, the show carried on in the same location, for much the same reason. It took place on 22nd April at the Cedar Court Hotel in – well, yes – Bradford.
