Rob Sprowson to talk to ROUGOL about CloudFS and something else

But what is that something else? Why… It’s a Mystery1! If you’re Sheep Farming in Barnett or lost in the Jungles of Jupiter on Monday, 16th January, you will probably miss out on having a Brilliant Day – well, okay, a Sensational evening – because Rob Sprowson of Elesar Ltd will be visiting the RISC OS User Group of London where he will Be Proud, Be Loud, Be Heard on the topic of CloudFS.

CloudFS efficiency boosted in version 0.24

‘Transactions’ when copying files reduced from a downpour to a drizzle. A new version of CloudFS is available from Elesar Ltd, the main benefit of which is improved efficiency. CloudFS provides RISC OS with access to remote, cloud-based storage, by integrating with OmniClient so that to the user it appears like a native filing system. The software currently works with just one cloud provider, pCloud, who are based in Switzerland and offer 10GB of free storage, with a range of price plans if you need more. In time it is…

Christmas meal at ROUGOL, 19th December

So if this was a news nybble, it would be a nybble about having a nibble, then? The RISC OS User Group of London‘s next meeting will take place on Monday, 19th December, and with no set topic of formal speaker arranged, the group will instead take the opportunity to have an informal discussion about what has happened in the RISC OS world during 2016, and what people hope to see happen in 2017 – and all of this over a drink and a meal.

Show report: London 2016

Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor London? This year’s RISC OS London Show took place on 29th October, and while it wasn’t as large as last year’s event (which I’ll discuss near the end of this report) it was still an enjoyable and worthwhile one. So, without any further preamble, here is a run down of what visitors could have seen, working clockwise from the entrance.

“Black Friday? Pah!” says CJE Micro’s

Note, that was “Pah!” not “Bah!” – and there was no sign of a “Humbug!” Black Friday – the day following Thanksgiving in the Untidy States of Overpuddle, and which has become recognised as the first day of the Christmas shopping season on which many large retailers hold promotional sales – was yesterday. Well, mostly1. Today is therefore Random Colour Saturday.

News Nybble: Sound synthesis at ROUGOL, Monday 21st November

And pencil in 16th January to hear about CloudFS and an as yet unannounced new product from Elesar! Anthony Bartram of AMCOG Games will be talking about sound synthesis at the next meeting of the RISC OS User Group of London, which takes place on Monday, 21st November, kicking off at 7:45pm. Tony – a musician, as well as a games developer – is working on a sound synthesiser for RISC OS, based on Wavebox for Windows, but with some differences in the sound engine, which will be geared towards…

News nybble: GoLinux can now GoGraphical

Users of RISC OS on Titanium-based machines have the option of booting into Linux thanks to GoLinux from Elesar, suppliers of the motherboard itself. However, as shown in this video recording of Chris Hall speaking to the Midlands User Group back in September, what that gets you into – initially – is a command line system, on which a graphical user interface needs to be set up, if that’s your preference. Back in summer, R-Comp produced a ‘graphical’ Linux disc for a customer, and they will be making such discs…
