News nybble: Mike Cook at WROCC, 4th October

Tomorrow night – Wednesday, 4th October – Mike Cook will be the guest speaker at the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club‘s October meeting, with the subject being “Another year of random projects.” Mike was last listed as the group’s guest speaker in February 2016, so that should perhaps be “Another year and a half…” – but either way, he should have plenty to tell the group. Meetings are open to members and non-members alike (with the latter paying an attendance fee of £3.00 – but check out the benefits of…

Robots, sensors, and a Raspberry Pi – Wakefield meeting, 7th June

Meeting probably safe – killer robots unlikely to appear. The next meeting of the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club will take place on Wednesday 7th June, with the subject matter being “Things to do with Robots, Sensors, and a Raspberry Pi” – with no further information given beyond that, leaving plenty of room for speculation. The most obvious guess (given that no speaker has been mentioned) is that it’s going to be an open discussion on the things that can be done with, well, robots, sensors, and a Raspberry Pi.…

Show reports and discussions at ROUGOL – Monday, 15th May

It’s not only Smarties that have the answer – ROUGOL does too! If you want to know what happened at last month’s Wakefield Show, a reasonable approach would be to read the RISCOSitory report – but I haven’t written it yet. The workload here in the bunker is such that the report is still to be written for the earlier Southwest Show – so the Wakefield one might be a while. You could also look at the videos of the theatre talks, but apart from one, I haven’t even watched…

The REALLY big news from Wakefield revealed at last

Imaginations were fired up thanks to all the excitement! In the run up to the Wakefield Show, which took place a couple of days ago, it became very clear that there was going to be some big news. Something was kicked off shortly before the event, and it seemed likely there would be an announcement of some significance about that at the show. However, I am led to believe that there has been some disappointment, not only from people who attended but also from people who didn’t and who have…

News nybble: Epic amounts of native storage accessible from RISC OS

RISC OS Open Ltd promised us an epic announcement at Wakefield – and this might just be it: The company will be demonstrating “previously unheard of amounts of storage on RISC OS” with a 2TB – that’s two TERRABYTES – drive attached directly to a disc controller on a RISC OS computer, in native Acorn FileCore format. An image of a RISC OS machine with a ‘Gargantuan’ hard drive was posted by Rob Sprowson to Twitter earlier this week (with the image stolen and included here), though at the time…

News nybble: RISC OS Developments at Wakefield

Mentioned at the tail-end of that R-Comp press release was a mention of RISC OS Developments Ltd – and no, I didn’t forget to mention it because of the limited time I have, I deliberately chose to separate it out. It’s only a paragraph, so I may as well just quote it in full: If all that wasn’t enough for you, the Wakefield show will be the event where we unveil our new joint venture (with Richard Brown of Orpheus and others) – RISC OS Developments Ltd. A massive project…
