Every girl user crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man Pi. A name that should by now be well known in the RISC OS world, if only for having an even dodgier sense of humour than my own, is Andy Marks of RISCOSbits. Describing himself as a Wakefield exhibitor virgin, Andy has let me know what he has planned for the show. Unsurprisingly, that means the usual array of RISCOSbits’ bits, which will be available at special show prices – but that’s not all. Getting the usual bits out of the…

News nybble: Elesar once again offering click and collect for Wakefield
Elesar Ltd is once again offering a ‘click and collect’ service for the Wakefield Show, with RISC OS Open Logistics transporting any goods ordered under the scheme for collection by punters at the event. To take advantage of the scheme, you simply need to select the relevant shipping method when ordering; it should say something to the effect of “Pick up from Wakefield Show” Elesar’s Rob Sprowson informs me that the cut off time is likely to be noon on Friday, giving RISC OS Open “time to battle the Cambridge…

This year’s Wakefield Show takes place on 22nd April, so it’s time for a brief look at what’s in store for visitors – and judging by what’s on the show website, along with other factors, it very much looks as though there could be something interesting afoot. The starting point for suggesting that is a 4th April entry in the “latest news” on the show website’s front page, which notes that a short additional slot has been added at the start of the day’s talks in the show theatre. Being…

That’s just seven days – so few you can count ’em on the fingers of, er, one and a bit hands! In a week’s time, a large contingent of the RISC OS community – hardware and software developers, businesses, hobbyist programmers and, of course, general users – will be converging on a hotel in a rather nice setting on the Mendip Hills for the first main event of the year: RISC OS Southwest, organised by R-Comp‘s Andrew Rawnsley and Orpheus Internet‘s Richard Brown. The hotel is, of course, the Webbington,…
Read MoreWakefield Show formally announced
But not so formally that I had to wear a dinner jacket to publish it here! Although the date for the 2017 Wakefield Show has been known about since the 2016 London Show, where it first appeared in the public eye in the issue of Archive Magazine published on the day of the event, it hadn’t been formally announced. At the time Archive’s editor, Jim Nagel, told me that he asked WROCC’s Chris Hughes for the date so that it could be included in the magazine, and I similarly asked…

Talk about leaving it until the last minute, that’s only 320 days away! EVERYBODY PANIC! Completing the trio of dates in 2017 for the main shows that take place in the United Kingdom, the date on which next year’s RISC OS London Show will be taking place has been announced as 28th, October, 2017. The St Giles Hotel, Feltham will once again be the venue, and while it may be a little too early to be absolutely certain who will be there (well, I will be – and you can…
Read MoreShow report: London 2016
Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor London? This year’s RISC OS London Show took place on 29th October, and while it wasn’t as large as last year’s event (which I’ll discuss near the end of this report) it was still an enjoyable and worthwhile one. So, without any further preamble, here is a run down of what visitors could have seen, working clockwise from the entrance.

Organiser Chris Hughes has been in touch to confirm that date of the next Wakefield Show is 22nd April, 2017, as published in the latest issue of Archive Magazine – so mark that date in your diaries now, folks. No comment was added about the venue, so I would imagine it is safe to assume that it will be at the Cedar Court Hotel as usual. Such details will undoubtedly come when a more formal, and more detailed announcement is made – if there is one thing that can be…

Feltham’s calling to the faraway towns, come along and see the best OS around! It is now just one week until I’ll be heading home from Feltham (and will have already long since reached home, looking at the time) – which means it’s just five days until I’ll be heading in the direction of Feltham. The day between those two journeys, of course, is when I’ll be in Feltham, exhibiting at this year’s London Show, organised by the RISC OS User Group of London – and here’s why you, the…
