Videos from the Southwest Show

With the last couple of months having been somewhat busy here in the bunker, I’ve not yet had time to write a Southwest Show report – indeed, it is only just over a week ago that I was finally able to sit down and watch the four talks given at the show, which I was able to capture with my video camera on the day. Following that, I was able to devote some time over the Easter weekend to doing a little editing work on them, before uploading the results…

News nybble: Two significant ARMX6 upgrades from R-Comp

R-Comp have announced a new network driver for the ARMX6 that can provide a performance boost of between one and a half and ten times. Most users should see a benefit, but some more so than others – users with mixed speed devices on their networks, for example, should see more consistent behaviour and less problematic networking with Acorn Access or ShareFS. The latest RISC OS build for ARMX6 computers also now includes support for disc partitioning – something that has been notably lacking on RISC OS until now. Partitioning…

News nybble: Raid your wallets for a RAID drive

New product from R-Comp at the Southwest Show this Saturday! With a nod towards the potential hurdles setting up network attached storage for those less technically inclined, and another towards the need to have good backups (which many people to this day still fail to do), R-Comp will be launching a two disc RAID mirrored storage solution for RISC OS users on Saturday. News nybble: GoLinux can now GoGraphical

Users of RISC OS on Titanium-based machines have the option of booting into Linux thanks to GoLinux from Elesar, suppliers of the motherboard itself. However, as shown in this video recording of Chris Hall speaking to the Midlands User Group back in September, what that gets you into – initially – is a command line system, on which a graphical user interface needs to be set up, if that’s your preference. Back in summer, R-Comp produced a ‘graphical’ Linux disc for a customer, and they will be making such discs…

The per machine costs to the company have risen by £70-£100, but they managed to build up a stock of components prior to the referendum  – so there will be a final batch of the computers available at the…
