Towards the end of June Chris Gransden, who has ported a number of emulators and games to RISC OS, released an alpha version of a new application for viewing images on the platform, explaining that “There are quite a few variants of various existing image formats and more recent formats that cannot be viewed easily on RISC OS.”

Set a new date for your diaries: 28th September, 2013 Following RISC OS Open Limited‘s announcement of a proposed new show to be held in Portsmouth, originally slated for 20th July, which would have put it a mere week after the Midlands Show and may have proven difficult for exhibitors, the idea was taken back to the drawing board and some possible new dates considered, with 21st and 28th September being offered up as possibilities.

Because breaking catching up is never easy… After falling behind with RISCOSitory updates late last year, I’ve been getting to the stage where I think I’ve almost caught back up, and then things get a little hectic and I fall behind again. I’ve therefore decided to resurrect the ‘snippets’ format to round up a few smaller news items in one go. This doesn’t bring me right up to date, and with the Midlands show almost upon us, I’m likely to fall further behind again, so there will probably be more…

Drag and not-drop added, not-drop not dropped, but drag and real-drop added. Sort of. In May, Alan Buckley released an update to PackMan, his alternative package manager to RiscPkg for downloading and installing RISC OS applications and other resources. Since then, he has also released a test application which shows a proof of concept of how drag and drop installation might work in future versions of PackMan, asking for feedback on the idea.
