DrawPrint version 1.40 released

Model T Ford option now working. Version 1.40 of Sine Nomine’s DrawPrint is now available to download. DrawPrint is an application that provides more control when printing Drawfiles, sprites or JPEGs, allowing them to be printed over multiple pages, allowing the user to select a scale, margins, overlaps, and so on. It also allows individual pages to be exported as Drawfiles for use in other applications. The update to version 1.40 deals with problems identified with the options to print “All text in black” and at the “Original size &…

PlayIt 1.73 release 2

There’s no sound like a SharedSound. PlayIt is a tool for playing sound samples, which is used by a number of RISC OS applications, including DigitalCD. Originally written by Rick Hudson, recent updates have been made available by Christopher Martin, who has just released version 1.73 release 2. This release incorporates Jeffrey Lee’s latest PlayItSSnd, an output driver for PlayIt to allow the module to use the SharedSound system, which allows CD tracks to be played in the background on systems lacking analogue audio. Version 1.11 of the driver was…

SD card support comes to RISC OS

Arrives in a flash. Something missing from RISC OS, which is increasingly apparent with support for them on modern devices on which the operating system can be run (or could be theoretically run if it was ported), is a filing system and driver for MMC/SD cards, allowing them to be accessed and used when inserted in the MicroSD card on hardware such as the BeagleBoard, in much the same way as any other storage media are accessed, like a hard or floppy disk or a CD or DVD ROM. MMC/SD…

RTMPDump comes to RISC OS

Got the hump that streaming gives RISC OS the bump? Get RTMPDump! RTMPDump is a command line tool for fetching RTMP streams and saving them to a local drive, which nicely complements FFmpeg and FFplay – so it is perhaps no surprise that version 2.3 of the software has been ported to RISC OS (as release 1.00) by none other than Christopher Martin, who has been responsible for bringing us new versions of those two applications. RTMP stands for Real Time Messaging Protocol, and was originally developed by Macromedia (now…

BBFlash updated to version 0.03

…after version 0.02 proves itself too indecent to be allowed out in public. Dave Higton has released a new version of BBFlash, his application that allows BeagleBoard or BeagleBoard-xM owners to reflash SD/SDHC/MMC cards, from which their devices boot RISC OS, with all of the standard files while the card remains in situ in the card slot from which it boots the device. The update addresses a serious bug in the previous version, whereby if a file was overwritten by one that was smaller, any unused clusters on the card…

Dungeons of Daggorath ported to RISC OS

Come and ‘ave a go if you think you’re ‘ard enough! Christopher Martin appears to have taken a break from his ongoing stream of releases of new versions of OpenVector, OpenGridPro and DrawPlus, FFmpeg and FFplay, and DRenderer – and has now announced the release of a port of Dungeons of Daggorath. The game originally dates back to 1982, when it was originally available for two systems – the TRS-80 Colour Computer, and the Dragon 32/64. Described as a ground-breaking game, which some have referred to as “the original Doom”,…

Impulse module updated again

Release of previous version a little too impulsive! When Sine Nomine released a new version (0.21) of the Impulse module recently, the intention was to deal with some issues whereby the module could interfere with messages sent by a task to itself – issues that came to light during the development of ImpEmail, the new mail merging email software supplied with the Impact database. The module, which was originally developed by Computer Concepts (now Xara), provides a mechanism for inter-application communications, command execution and data transfer. However, it soon emerged…

Lcheck updated for Euro Millions

App to tell you when Euro millionaire. Lcheck, the lottery syndicate checking application from Kevin Wells, has been updated to version 1.08. The recent update to version 1.07 added the facility to for the software to use wget and a working internet connection to fetch the last eleven draws for the main Lottery, Thunderball and Plus 5 games. Missing from that list were the results of the Euro Millions because, according to Kevin, “the last field in their csv download file is for the Millionaire raffle and sometimes they have…

Welcome to PandaLand!

Everything for one panda! R-Comp, who last year brought out the ARMini computer, based around a BeagleBoard-xM and subsequently launched a software support scheme for BeagleBoard owners wishing to run RISC OS on their devices, have now produced a similar scheme for PandaBoard owners – with the potentially puntastic name of PandaLand! The new scheme is intended to provide PandaBoard owners with software and operating system components with a degree of support – something that isn’t really there if you opt for the DIY approach of performing a self-install of…

Previously missed: A 32-bit version of TBAFS

Sadly spotted after TBA’s revival comes to a halt. A piece of news that somehow passed me by is that a month after making the 26-bit version of TBAFS available for download, which was itself back in October 2011, an update to the 32-bit version was released – itself having been made available last May. According to Alan Peters on the TBA Blog, “This fixes a bug in the TBA (Fast) decompression code that was introduced when it was converted to 32bit.” The software, version 1.03, is described on the…
