It’s now less than 3.14159265359 days away. Shaping up to be something you really, really don’t want to miss, the RISC OS London Show takes place this Saturday – 27th October, 2012 – at the St Giles Hotel, Feltham. Why don’t you want to miss it? Well, make yourselves comfortable, and allow me to explain…

Midlands Show: report and photos
By the eighth day machine just got upset. A show report had not been posted yet… Just over a week ago, on July 7th, the Midsummer Midlands Mugshow 2012 took place. This is the smallest UK show of the RISC OS year, attracting the fewest exhibitors and visitors alike, and most exhibitors tend to time their big news and releases for the bigger shows, such as Wakefield and London. As usual, I set off from the RISCOSitory/Soft Rock Software top secret underground bunker (the entrance cunningly disguised as a ramshackle…

Come along and say hi. Notes from mummy not acceptable. It’s the afternoon of Friday the 6th July, 2012, and this will probably be the last thing I write on RISCOSitory.com for a few days. Why? Because tomorrow is the Midlands Midsummer Mugshow, 2012, which takes place at St John’s Church Hall, 205 Warwick Road, Kenilworth, CV8 1HY, with the doors open to the public from 11am until 4pm and an entrance fee of just £4 for adults, and nothing at all for children. This year’s exhibitors include RISC OS…

A June German get together. The Arche Acorn User Club, based in the Ruhr area of Germany and describing itself as being “for the Friends of the RISC OS machines Acorn Archimedes, Acorn Risc PC, IYONIX pc, A9home and all other RISC OS computers,” are organising an “Arche user gathering”. The gathering, number 2.2 on their (new) numbering scheme, will take place from 1pm on Saturday, 16th June, 2012, in Room 104 of the Unperfekthaus, Friedrich-Ebert-Str. 18, 45127 Essen – the same location as the last two gatherings, which took…

Yet another better late than never report! The last fortnight or so has been a busy one for me, and a major contributor to that has been the annual Wakefield Show, organised as usual by the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC), and held at the Cedar Court Hotel. The show took place on Saturday 28th April, 2012, and it made me busy in the week running up to it because I decided I’d have something new(ish) on show (more on that later), and in the week following it because…

So there’s no time for even a snifter of a snippet. As usual, in the run up to the annual Wakefield Show, the premier event in the land of RISC OS, announcements and updates are ten-a-penny. And, as usual, I am exhibiting at the show with my Soft Rock Software hat on. This normally means that as show day gets closer and closer, I have a lot to do – and, consequently, I haven’t had time to sift through the various announcements that have reached my inbox.

Another date for your diaries according to Archive Magazine is July 7th, which is given as the date for the 2012 Midsummer MUG Show in Kennilworth. The Midlands User Group website doesn’t yet mention the event, but the date seems to coincide with the equivalent date in 2011, when the show was held on July 9th. The venue for the last couple of years has been St John’s Church Hall, 205 Warwick Road, Kenilworth, which seems to be a good fit for the number of exhibitors in recent years, so…

According to the latest issue of Archive Magazine and the Big Ben Club‘s website, the club’s RISC OS Experience will be taking place this year on May 12th, at District Building “The Vuister”, Molenwerf 44, 1541 WR Koog aan de Zaan, Amsterdam. Directions and a map can be found on their website, including a floorplan of the building, which suggests “The Vuister” is the room in which the event is to be held. Admission will be free, and refreshments available at a reasonable price. There is free parking and a…

This year’s RISC OS South West Show almost didn’t happen. Paul Middleton of RISCOS Ltd, the show’s organiser for the last few years, revealed recently that he normally waits for the Webbington Hotel, the show’s usual venue, to reduce the prices of the rooms in which the show can be held – and it seems even more recently (early January, according to Archive 23:4, p4), Paul said that he wouldn’t be organising another show. Richard Brown of Orpheus Internet soon stepped up, with Andrew Rawnsley and R-Comp joining him to…

The first show of the RISC OS calendar is usually the South West Show, which traditionally takes place during February. Paul Middleton of RISC OS Ltd, who has been organising the show for the last few years, is reported in Archive Magazine issue 23:3 to have told Jim Nagel, the editor, that “he usually learns a date at the last minute when the hotel offers special deals”. However, even last year’s show, which was held later than usual, in March, was officially announced towards the end of November 2010, and…
