This year’s Wakefield Show takes place on 22nd April, so it’s time for a brief look at what’s in store for visitors – and judging by what’s on the show website, along with other factors, it very much looks as though there could be something interesting afoot. The starting point for suggesting that is a 4th April entry in the “latest news” on the show website’s front page, which notes that a short additional slot has been added at the start of the day’s talks in the show theatre. Being…

Read MoreNew ‘Shows’ discussion list now open for business
With yet another successful Southwest Show disappearing in the rear view mirror (report coming soon…ish), and the Wakefield Show now looming on the horizon, there has been a small amount of behind the scenes discussion about issues surrounding the RISC OS shows in general. An idea put forward in one of those discussions was for a general mailing list for people to discuss recent and upcoming events – and that idea has now been turned into reality with the RISC OS shows and events discussion list.

A bit of this, a bit of that, eye of newt, toe of frog – it’s all good. The next meeting of the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC) – the second meeting of 2017, but the first ‘normal’ meeting, because last month’s was the group’s annual general meeting – takes place on Wednesday, 1st February, and will feature not one, but two talks on two very different subjects.
Read MoreWakefield Show formally announced
But not so formally that I had to wear a dinner jacket to publish it here! Although the date for the 2017 Wakefield Show has been known about since the 2016 London Show, where it first appeared in the public eye in the issue of Archive Magazine published on the day of the event, it hadn’t been formally announced. At the time Archive’s editor, Jim Nagel, told me that he asked WROCC’s Chris Hughes for the date so that it could be included in the magazine, and I similarly asked…
Read MoreIt’s AGM time at WROCC on 4th January
The Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club is to hold its annual general meeting on Wednesday, 4th January, 2017, at 7:45pm. This would be the group’s scheduled January meeting, but it is customarily reserved for their AGM, at which their committee for the coming year will be elected, and attending members will be able to have their say on the Club’s future and how it is run. As such, while non-members are normally able to attend meetings, the January meeting is restricted to members only – so please don’t turn up…

7th December? But Christmas is still AGES away! The Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club – the Yorkshire-based user group after which WROCC syndrome is named1 – will be holding their December meeting on Wednesday 7th December; two days time as I type this. Being the last meeting before Christmas, it will be an evening of festive frivolity, with mince pies and other ‘seasonal nibbles’ available to eat, and rather than someone giving a talk on a RISC OS or other computer related topic, those attending will be subjected to a…
Read MoreNews nybble: Wakefield 2017 confirmed for 22nd April
Organiser Chris Hughes has been in touch to confirm that date of the next Wakefield Show is 22nd April, 2017, as published in the latest issue of Archive Magazine – so mark that date in your diaries now, folks. No comment was added about the venue, so I would imagine it is safe to assume that it will be at the Cedar Court Hotel as usual. Such details will undoubtedly come when a more formal, and more detailed announcement is made – if there is one thing that can be…

Nearly missed it – I really need a news address. Oh wait, I do have one! The next meeting of the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club takes place tonight – Wednesday, 2nd November – and this month Steve Fryatt will be talking about Ovation, the DTP package originally written by David Pilling. Not to be confused with its younger ‘Pro’ sibbling – which is used to create the club’s monthly newsletter – Ovation is now available for free, with the source code available, and further work has been done on…
