News nybble: Chris Hall launching family tree app at Southwest 2018

Having been developing and showing off his SatNav application and RISC OS GPS device at recent shows, Chris Hall will be taking visitors off in a new direction at this year’s Southwest Show. The event takes place just four weeks from today, and as well as the GPS device Chris will be launching a new genealogy application, FamTree, which will be available to purchase for £15.00. As its name suggests, the application builds and displays a family tree. However, rather than working from data previously entered into a rigidly structured…

The latest Icon Bar Interview was published this morning, featuring Orpheus Internet‘s Richard Brown as the interviewee. Richard, as everyone should know by now, teams up with R-Comp‘s Andrew Rawnsley to form the Dynamic Duo that organises the RISC OS Southwest Show – the first main RISC OS show in the calendar year. And in that interview, Richard revealed the date of the 2018 event as Saturday, 24th February – again in the Webbington Hotel, located on the edge of the Mendip Hills between Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare. Videos from the Southwest Show

With the last couple of months having been somewhat busy here in the bunker, I’ve not yet had time to write a Southwest Show report – indeed, it is only just over a week ago that I was finally able to sit down and watch the four talks given at the show, which I was able to capture with my video camera on the day. Following that, I was able to devote some time over the Easter weekend to doing a little editing work on them, before uploading the results…

News nybble: Two significant ARMX6 upgrades from R-Comp

R-Comp have announced a new network driver for the ARMX6 that can provide a performance boost of between one and a half and ten times. Most users should see a benefit, but some more so than others – users with mixed speed devices on their networks, for example, should see more consistent behaviour and less problematic networking with Acorn Access or ShareFS. The latest RISC OS build for ARMX6 computers also now includes support for disc partitioning – something that has been notably lacking on RISC OS until now. Partitioning…

News nybble: Two new items to be announced by CJE Micro’s

Coming soon: Two announcements! In a very meta-move, Chris Evans has announced that there will soon be two more announcements from CJE Micro’s. Well, more specifically, he’s announced that CJE Micro’s will be launching two new products at the Southwest Show tomorrow, and referred people to separate announcements to find out more – presumably, they’ll either appear later today (which might make them too late for RISCOSitory this side of the show), or he’ll be announcing them at the show, with online announcements after the event. Either way, one good…

The company…

Look backwards and forwards with ROUGOL

Is that what a time traveller does when crossing the road? At their next meeting, which takes place just two days from now on Monday, 20th February, the RISC OS User Group of London will be looking back over the last year, and forward to the next – but without the benefit of a crystal ball or a time machine. Using this year’s RISC OS Awards nominees as an initial guide, along with the alternative options suggested by a number of voters, the group will start the evening by reviewing…
