News nybble: RISC OS eXperience, 2018 – 12th May

The Big Ben Club‘s annual gathering, the RISC OS eXperience (English translation) will be taking place this year on Saturday, 12th May, running from 10:00am until 4:00pm. Focusing on the support of Raspberry Pi and RISC OS amongst Dutch users, the event will take place at its usual venue, not far from Amsterdam: Wijkgebouw de Vuister, Molenwerf 44, 1541 WR Koog aan de Zaan, The Netherlands. Time to discuss and make travel arrangements for the Southwest Show

And, oh yeah… I should probably say something about the show as well, shouldn’t I? It is now just two and a half weeks until this year’s Southwest Show, which will be taking place at the Webbington Hotel, its home since the first one took place all the way back in 1998. With there having been no show one year – I believe in 2000 – that makes this the twentieth Southwest Show.

Recursion Computer Science Fair engages time shift

Sadly, though, the time shift it has engaged isn’t some kind of time machine. The date has been published for the Recursion Computer Science Fair, 2018 – a multi-platform event with a focus on education that takes place at the King Edward VI School in Stratford-upon-Avon. Despite Recursion not being a RISC OS show, there is usually a RISC OS presence in the form of the Midlands User Group, and a small number of other exhibitors.

Mark 21st April, 2018 in your diaries, folks – because that’s the date for the next Wakefield Show, according to the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club’s Events Diary page. With the doors expected to be open to the public from 10:30am until 4:30am, the entry says that the event will once again take place at: The Cedar Court Hotel, Denby Dale Road, Calder Grove, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, WF4 3QZ.

RISC OS Developments release OBrowser as a fundraising initiative

As this year’s Wakefield Show drew near, news emerged of a new company – RISC OS Developments Ltd – formed by R-Comp’s Andrew Rawnsley and Orpheus Internet’s Richard Brown, with an extra theatre slot set aside for Richard to explain why the company was set up, what it’s purpose is (to a certain extent; full details were, and still are, subject to a non-disclosure agreement), and how people could help. Tomorrow’s London Show will see the launch of a significant new version of R-Comp‘s NetFetch, which brings with it greater support for modern email security standards and protocols – SSL/TLS, SPF-checking, and so on.
