July’s cloak and dagger meeting in Southampton
Venue a highly guarded secret, revealed only to those who know the code1 The Southampton RISC OS Users Group normally meets in the Itchen College Sports Centre, but there is a change of venue for their July meeting – to a top secret location, the actual address of which is a highly guarded secret1. Why is this? Perhaps it’s because someone from Southampton attended ROUGOL‘s June meeting, the subject of which was Cryptography and Security, and developed an unhealthy sense of paranoia as a result – after all, they really…
Read MoreA medley of matters at Wakefield meeting – 5th July
The Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club will next be meeting on Wednesday 5th July, and has a mixture of topics planned. Starting off the mix will be Derek Barron, who will be demonstrating his 3D Molecule program, amongst other things. Peter Richmond will then take a look at StudioSound – an audio sequencing package originally released by Oregan Developments, and since updated by Henrik Pedersen. Peter will be using various sound samples to show off the features of the package.
Read MoreMidlands User Group at Recursion, 1st July
Recursion comes around again! The Midlands User Group normally meets on the third Saturday of odd months, but July is a particularly odd month because this year they’re meeting on the first Saturday instead. It used to be that the group hosted their own RISC OS show in early July, and treated that as their meeting for the month – and that’s more or less what they still do, with the exception that their show is now a small area within a much bigger event that covers a great deal…

A reminder has found its way into the RISCOSitory inbox about the next RISC OS User Group of London meeting, which takes place on Monday, 19th June, from around 7:45pm in the restaurant (upstairs) at The Blue-Eyed Maid, 173 Borough High Street, London, SE1 1HR. Full details of the meeting can be found in the previous announcement but, to sum up, the guest speaker will be Dr. Nat Queen of Birmingham University, who will be talking to the group on the hot topics of cryptography and security. The talk will…

Read MoreCryptography and Security at ROUGOL on Monday, 19th June
This post has been double-encoded with ROT13, for your added security1. Cryptography and Security is the topic for the next meeting of the RISC OS User Group of London, with a presentation by Doctor Nat Queen of Birmingham University. Computer security is a topic that should be important to everyone these days, with so much of our lives stored on not only our own machines, but also those belonging to third party companies – from our energy supplies to our tax records; it’s all computerised, and the data is in…
Read MoreRobots, sensors, and a Raspberry Pi – Wakefield meeting, 7th June
Meeting probably safe – killer robots unlikely to appear. The next meeting of the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club will take place on Wednesday 7th June, with the subject matter being “Things to do with Robots, Sensors, and a Raspberry Pi” – with no further information given beyond that, leaving plenty of room for speculation. The most obvious guess (given that no speaker has been mentioned) is that it’s going to be an open discussion on the things that can be done with, well, robots, sensors, and a Raspberry Pi.…
Read MoreShow reports and discussions at ROUGOL – Monday, 15th May
It’s not only Smarties that have the answer – ROUGOL does too! If you want to know what happened at last month’s Wakefield Show, a reasonable approach would be to read the RISCOSitory report – but I haven’t written it yet. The workload here in the bunker is such that the report is still to be written for the earlier Southwest Show – so the Wakefield one might be a while. You could also look at the videos of the theatre talks, but apart from one, I haven’t even watched…
