News nybble: CJE Micro’s and 4D goodies for London
Start practising your squinting – they have small things. Chris will probably hold them up in the theatre for the audience to struggle to see. There will be a wide range of goodies from the little shop with a lot of stock at the London Show tomorrow, with the usual CJE Micro’s and 4D presence. Amongst other things, there will be a selection of models from their RapidO range – but due to limited space in their vehicle (the TARDIS must be in for a service) Chris Evans asks that…
Read More4D introduces USB mouse interface for older RISC OS machines
Modern RISC OS systems tend to come equipped with a number of USB ports, one of which is normally used to connect the mouse to the computer. However, this wasn’t always the case – USB was first introduced in the mid-1990s, and the Acorn Archimedes first appeared in 1987; Acorn didn’t have the option of USB, and instead designed the Archimedes, RiscPC, and all the variants, to use a quadrature mouse. The BBC Micro, of course, is an older computer again and in its case, if you had a mouse,…

I had no idea computers contained fat or sugar – but this one definitely doesn’t! Putting on his 4D hat, Chris Evans has introduced a new computer in the RaspberryRO range, this one given the ‘Lite’ suffix. The RaspberryRO Lite takes the form of a Raspberry Pi (but you probably guessed that from the name) in a ‘nano’ desktop case,

Cutting it a bit fine with the timing of your announcement there, Chris! They will, of course, carry a their usual wide range brought along from the little shop with a lot of stock – but they won’t be able to squeeze everything into their car, so if you have a specific requirement, it’s best to contact them prior to midday today. The company…

A new version of leading bitmap graphics editor PhotoDesk will be available at the London Show on Saturday from 4D, the sister company of CJE Micro’s. The new version brings a number of changes, including better JPEG support and improved compatibility for a number of modern RISC OS platforms (with support for the Raspberry Pi 3 added) – but perhaps most importantly, it now supports those platforms on which the order of colour components are swapped, such as IGEPv5 and Titanium. Upgrades – which start at £12.00 if upgrading from…
Read Morepi-topRO – a proper portable RISC OS box
Finally, you can let your A4 cash in on its pension! Anyone familiar with the Raspberry Pi scene will be aware of the Pi-Top, a laptop computer based around the credit card-sized computer that was developed after a successful crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo in 2014 – and anyone familiar with the RISC OS scene will know that Chris Evans of CJE Micro’s and Fourth Dimension has, since London 2015, been talking about releasing a RISC OS version of the machine.

Horsham, Southampton, Bristol, Midlands, Wessex… Everybody talk about… pop music! No, hang on, that’s not right. There are quite a number of user group meetings taking place over the next week, so it seems sensible to wrap them up in a single post, covering all of those up to and including next Saturday (17th September).
