RISC OS Developments acquires Impression family of products
Impression Style now available free of charge Just in time for this year’s London Show, the company formed only a few short years ago by Andrew Rawnsley and Richard Brown has pulled another rabbit out of the hat, and announced that it has recently taken over ownership of the Impression family of products.
Have ARMbook, will travel
R-Comp’s ARM-based RISC OS laptop lands, allowing its users to take off (or catch a train, whatever) First hinted at by R-Comp‘s Andrew Rawnsley in the run up to last year’s London Show, and then shown off at the event itself, the ARMbook (aka ARMbok due to a typo in an early newsletter) is an ARM-based laptop that runs RISC OS natively1, rather than under emulation on top of another operating system.
Something new from Steve Fryatt at Wakefield
Well, when I say new… Steve Fryatt will once again be attending the Wakefield Show this coming Saturday, at which lucky attendees will be able to purchase his collection of RISC OS software on a flat shiny disc in exchange for a crisp fiver. The CD contains a wealth of software, with – probably – something for everyone:
Netfetch 5.50 lands safely and securely
I could’ve made a joke about safety nets, couldn’t I? Oh well. Now available from R-Comp is the latest version of the NetFetch internet suite, which contains a bundle of software including, amongst other things, Hermes for transporting emails and a version of Messenger so you can read and write those emails. The update to version 5.50 includes two headline features – support for the very latest SSL/TLS standards, and an easy ‘quick-fetch’ function for individual mailboxes.
News nybble: ARMX6 Graphics Acceleration software updated
Users of R-Comp‘s ARMSX ARMX6 computers who have purchased the Graphics Acceleration software first previewed at last year’s Southwest Show can now benefit from a free update to version 1.10 from. The new version resolves issues with legacy full-screen modes that use screen banking or shadowing. The software can be purchased through !Store, through which existing users should also the new version available for them to download.
News nybble: Hardware graphics acceleration for ARMX6 and mini.m
Having first demonstrated it at this year’s Southwest Show, R-Comp Interactive has now released an upgrade to allow computers based around the i.MX6 CPU/GPU to benefit from hardware graphics acceleration. With it running, scrolling through documents is much faster, redraw is greatly improved when moving windows around, and so on. Prophet set to visit London on 17th September

Both small, but still visible without the use of a magnifying glass! This year’s Wakefield show (report coming to be started soon at some point) saw the launch of a new computer from R-Comp, called the mini.m. The system is most easily described as a mini version of the ARMSX ARMX6, squeezed down so that it fits in a cube measuring just two inches in each dimension. But what if you weren’t at Wakefield, and want to see this computer with your own eyes? Your best bet is to hope…
