Existing users of R-Comp‘s NetFetch 5 package can now update their software to version 5.03, by downloading the new version from !Store – it should be in the “My Software” section.

The main improvement in version 5.03 is to do with how the software deals with multiple SMTP servers. Support for this is relatively new, necessitated by the increasing use of Sender Policy Framework (SPF) as an anti-spam measure, and the new version sees some user interface improvements as a result of user feedback.

For new users, NetFetch 5.03 can be purchased via !Store, and it will also be available to buy on CD ROM at this weekend’s Southwest Show.

May also result in a new version of NetFetch 4.

Tomorrow’s London Show will see the launch of a significant new version of R-Comp‘s NetFetch, which brings with it greater support for modern email security standards and protocols – SSL/TLS, SPF-checking, and so on. There have also been improvements to performance, stability, and other aspects of the software, including a major update to the main Hermes module. NetFetch 5 is priced at £30 (£20 to upgrade) plus P&P for a copy on CD, or without P&P as a !Store download.

During the development of NetFetch 5, a couple of issues “cropped up” with NetFetch 4-specific features – so the company is planning to hopefully make one further release of that version, bringing it up to version 4.13 if they do – but given the nature of the NetFetch 5 release, the sensible option for NetFetch 4 users would be to upgrade to that.

Announcement from Andrew Rawnsley, 25th February, 2015.

We are pleased to announce that version 4.10 of NetFetch will be released at the Southwest Show. This is a free upgrade for existing customers, but that won’t go live until after the show, just in case of tech support issues – better to launch when we’re around to provide assistance. Communication sometimes leaves links incomplete – but this new version should help!

This year’s Wakefield Show, which takes place on Saturday, 21st April – a couple of days time – will see the release of a brand new version of Messenger Pro, which now gains a big, shiny ‘8’ on the end of its name to replace the old, dusty ‘7’.

R-Comp released version 7 of the email and news client some three years ago, and – building on the work done to NetFetch, bringing that up to version 5 – with this major release an emphasis has been placed on both security, and compatibility with other platforms. Continue reading »

The question on everyone’s lips for countless years to come will be “Where were you on 28th October, 2017?”

Okay, they probably won’t be asking that – but I’m asking it now.

Well? Where were you?

I’ll tell you where I was: Feltham. More specifically, the St Giles Hotel – in the conference rooms on the first floor, where this year’s London Show was held. If you weren’t there, I’ll assume you’re reading this because you have an interest in RISC OS, and would like to know what you missed. In which case, read on… Continue reading »
