GoLinux update gives Linux booting a boost

Reduced inertia to get you going. Elesar‘s GoLinux application allows a Titanium-based computer to boot from the RISC OS desktop straight into Linux1 – Debian (Jessie) – effectively  making those systems equipped with the software dual OS machines. This can be hugely useful, because even the most ardent of RISC OS users would have to admit there are many shortcomings in the software available for the platform – so being able to switch from RISC OS to Linux, all in the same box – allows a lot more software to…

News nybble: Titanium’s Linux build updated

Elesar Ltd has released a new version of its Linux micro SD card for the Titanium motherboard. The original Titanium build featured version 8.1 of Debian (Jessie), and the new release features version 8.7. The company says there have been  lots of technical changes since the previous release, but the two most obvious ones for customers will be that DHCP is enabled by default, and that there are now CD/DVD-ROM drivers built in by default – so there is no need to resort to arcane command lines to install them.…

News nybble: Elesar releases Font Directory Pro

In January, Elesar‘s Rob Sprowson paid a visit to the RISC OS User Group of London to talk about CloudFS, and another ‘mystery’ product, later revealed to be font management system Font Directory Pro, originally from LOOKsystems. At that point, a new version of the software was ready, and the only remaining task before it could be released was converting the large user manual. The last release from LOOKsystems was all the way back in 2003, and the new version (3.20) sees the software updated to work on newer ARM…

News nybble: GoLinux can now GoGraphical

Users of RISC OS on Titanium-based machines have the option of booting into Linux thanks to GoLinux from Elesar, suppliers of the motherboard itself. However, as shown in this video recording of Chris Hall speaking to the Midlands User Group back in September, what that gets you into – initially – is a command line system, on which a graphical user interface needs to be set up, if that’s your preference. Back in summer, R-Comp produced a ‘graphical’ Linux disc for a customer, and they will be making such discs…

Try on a tux – run Linux on your Titanium too

Announcement from Elesar, 12th April, 2016. Elesar‘s award winning Titanium motherboard has run RISC OS 5.23 since it started shipping in late 2015, with a Linux variant also available, but having two computers for two different operating systems is a bit of a waste of desk space, so wouldn’t it be easier to be able to try out Linux with only a mouse click?
