Rob Sprowson, aka Sprow, has fixed a couple of minor niggles with Pluto, Jonathan Duddington’s popular email and news client, originally released in 1997 as a commercial product, and since made open source. Module updates from Steve Fryatt
If the Cybermen threatened to “backspace” it just wouldn’t seem as bad! In a post on the RISC OS Open forums in July, Steve Fryatt explained that he has updated several old modules. The purpose of the updates was, to start with, to make them more maintainable. They were originally assembled using Darren Salt’s ExtBasAsm module, which means the work had to be done in a RISC OS environment. The Dark Disc Knight rises Dave Ruck (aka Druck) announced towards the end of June* that new versions of TimerMod, AppStat and CPUload can be found on the ARM Club website. The updates correct for “code which could crash if used on the Raspberry Pi when the NetTime module had adjusted the system timer for the real time clock running too fast,” according to Druck’s announcement, who therefore recommended that the new versions are downloaded if they are to be run on the credit card sized computer.

Towards the end of June Chris Gransden, who has ported a number of emulators and games to RISC OS, released an alpha version of a new application for viewing images on the platform, explaining that “There are quite a few variants of various existing image formats and more recent formats that cannot be viewed easily on RISC OS.”

In May, Alan Buckley released an update to PackMan, his alternative package manager to RiscPkg for downloading and installing RISC OS applications and other resources. Since then, he has also released a test application which shows a proof of concept of how drag and drop installation might work in future versions of PackMan, asking for feedback on the idea.
