News nybble: Updated Linux for Titanium now available

The version of Linux available from Elesar Ltd for the Titanium motherboard has been updated, bringing it up to version 8.10 of Debian (Jessie), the specific distribution used. The last release was based on version 8.7, and Elesar says this is a maintenance release that benefits from both security and bug fixes, with details of the changes available from the Debian website separately for version 8.8, version 8.9, and finally version 8.10. The updated version is available either to buy from the company on a ready-to-use micro-SD card, or for…

Font Directory Pro update reaches The Village

Can now be used by Number 6. I mean on RISC OS 6! A new version of Font Directory Pro has been released by Elesar Ltd, bringing the software up to version 3.22. Originally developed and sold by LOOKsystems and now being looked after by Elesar, Font Directory Pro is a popular font management package, and makes it much easier to deal with large collections of fonts than it would otherwise be using the standard font manager that comes as part of RISC OS. The package is actually a suite…

Show report: London 2017

The question on everyone’s lips for countless years to come will be “Where were you on 28th October, 2017?” Okay, they probably won’t be asking that – but I’m asking it now. Well? Where were you? I’ll tell you where I was: Feltham. More specifically, the St Giles Hotel – in the conference rooms on the first floor, where this year’s London Show was held. If you weren’t there, I’ll assume you’re reading this because you have an interest in RISC OS, and would like to know what you missed.…

What do you get if you cross a two headed Titanium with 256 colours?

An extra wide, 256 colour display! With two DVI-I sockets on board, one of the selling points of Elesar‘s Titanium is the ability to drive two displays side by side. RISC OS doesn’t (properly) support this, but it can be done by fooling the operating system into treating the two screens as though they are one. The software to do this has been available since February 2016. Much more recently, an updated ROM image was released in July of this year that allowed the board to use 256 colour screen…

The Long Gap is almost over – the London Show is almost upon us

So what’s in store for you lucky RISC OS users this year? The Long Gap is the period between the annual Wakefield Show, which usually takes place in April, and the London Show, which takes place a whole six months later (that’s half a year, doncher know), towards the end of October. It’s October now (and has been for a week and a day), which means the Long Gap is almost over, and the London Show is imminent – it takes place on Saturday the 28th – so it’s time…

R-Comp Interactive puts Titanium into Beeblebrox mode

If it supports two heads, does that mean it’ll soon support three ARMs?1 Users of R-Comp‘s TiMachine computer – and those who are subscribed to their support scheme for Elesar‘s Titanium – can now make use of the two DVI-I outputs found on the motherboard. The company has released DualHead, which makes it easy to drive two separate monitors from the board.

Buy a Titanium during September, grab a games bundle FOC

Five games for the price of none! (Well, ignoring the price of the Titanium, obviously!) The summer holiday period is just about over, and people with kids will soon see them returning to school (here in the UK, at least). Things will be quiet around the house during the day, so you’ll need some way to pass the time, having got used to entertaining the children during their time off. Elesar Ltd have provided a simple solution with their latest announcement, by offering a a bundle of five titles from…
