Neatly following last month’s meeting, in which Mark Moxon showed off his two player, split screen version of Elite, this month the RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) will be treated to a RISC OS game under development by Nick Anderson – aka jankfactor – inspired by the flight and fight aspects of Elite but styled as an arcade action combat game.
Called Space Chase, the game is pretty much what it says on the tin: you’ll play as a cop, and you chase another ship through space with the aim of bringing its shields offline and disabling it, so you can arrest those on board. Things aren’t always that simple, though – if given half a chance, the target ship can initiate a jump to another sector, where there may be accomplices laying in wait to help their chum. More details – and videos – can be found by checking out the thread about it on the Stardot Forums.
Or better still, to see the absolutely latest version in action, join the ROUGOL meeting, which will take place on Monday, 19th October. The meeting will be a hybrid one as usual, so if you want to join the group in person, the place to be is:
The Duke of Sussex
(Upstairs in the Chichester or Petworth Room)
23 Baylis Road,
London,
SE1 7AY.
There are directions to the venue on the ROUGOL website, and you can expect to find members lurking from around 6:30pm. The meeting proper will commence from around 7:45pm.
If you can’t make it to the pub, you can use Zoom if you have a device that can run the software. You’ll also need the log-in credentials, which remain the same as previous meetings – so if you’ve already joined one you should have them, but if not you can get them by contacting ROUGOL. The Zoom meeting should be open for people to join from around 7:30pm.
RISC OS London Show
ROUGOL is also responsible for the annual London Show, which this year will take place just one week from now on Saturday, 24th October, at the Harrow District Masonic Centre, in Kenton, London. Keep your eyes peeled for more news as it comes in!
