If you want to keep up with the latest news about RISC OS, there are two publications you need to check out, along with a user group, and a couple of websites.
Archive is a long-running magazine, that has been published since the late 1980s. With a subscription running for six issues, you can opt to receive it either as a PDF delivered by email, or as a professionally printed A5 publication. Within each issue you’ll find the latest news and opinions, hints and tips, a selection of feature articles written by members of the community, and much more.
Archive Magazine will be at RISC OS North with the latest issue – so existing subscribers can pick up their issue on the day, and new subscribers can take their very first issue away with them. You can also expect there to be a supply of back issues.
Another magazine to check out is Drag ‘n Drop, a quarterly magazine published as a PDF file. This one focuses on the Raspberry Pi and Pinebook computers, but most of its content is applicable to any RISC OS computer, and it’s edited with the goal of being accessible to a wide range of users.
If you visit the Drag ‘n Drop stand at the show, you’ll be able to buy a USB stick containing the latest issue, and every issue published to date – and you’ll also find a range of books available, and a few other things besides.
The Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC) will also be exhibiting, and one benefit of joining the group is that you’ll receive their self-titled magazine. Delivered as a PDF, The WROCC contains news and features written by other members.
Online, you can also get news and updates by keeping up with the RISC OS Open forums, which forums a sort of central hub for the RISC OS community online, and has individual sections for help and support, and so on – but most importantly, one for announcements. There are changes being made to the way the forums work even as you read this, so talk to RISC OS Open at the show to find out more about that.
And finally – no, honestly, I’m not saving the best until last – there’s also this very site. RISCOSitory is run by Soft Rock Software, who you’ll also find exhibiting.
