This is a new trial feature for the website – a list of all upcoming meetings (and other events) I can see for the coming month, possibly with notable mentions for any further ahead. I’ll aim to post this either at the end of one month, or the begininng of the next.
Things are currently very busy here in the RISCOSitory bunker – busier these days than it’s ever been – so it might not necessarily be posted on the last day of the preceding month, or the first of the month in question; it might be a couple of days either side of that, depending when I can find the time. And this is also why it’s only a trial feature, and not a feature that can be confirmed as a definite new regular feature moving forward.
I’m going to take this opportunity to remind people that my general policy for news on RISCOSitory, with very few exceptions, is that I only post something to the site if an announcement is sent to the news@riscository.com email address. There are various reasons for this, which I won’t go into here – but consider how busy I am to be one of them; I don’t have time to read forums, mailing lists, etc. With that in mind, if you organise events for RISC OS, such as regular user group meetings with guest speakers, PLEASE do not see this monthly post as a reason not to send your announcements closer to the time in question!
With that out of the way, let’s get on with what’s happening in August:
Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC) meeting – 5th August, 7:45pm
WROCC usually meets up online, using Zoom, on the first Wednesday of each month, and on the 5th August Martin Eastwood will be the guest speaker, talking about the A15 Emulator, which is designed to allow RISC OS to run on an emulated Cortex-A15 processor, the Kinetic Box, which emulates a RiscPC fitted with a Kinetic processor card, and sprite and draw viewers for Mac and Windows.
Wessex ARM User Group (WAUG) meeting – 8th August, 10:30am
WAUG usually meets online, using Zoom, on the second Saturday of the month. These meetings are much more informal than those with guest speakers, and are more a group of RISC OS users (or ex-users) who get together online and have a general discussion, which may not even touch much upon RISC OS itself.
RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) meeting – 17th August, 7:45pm
ROUGOL usually holds hybrid meetings – on Zoom for the online cohort, and in a pub for the in-person cohort – on the third Monday of each month. Although there isn’t always a guest speaker, the group has just broken its own record with a run of some 18 months with one. No details are available yet for who may be speaking in August.
Looking beyond the coming month
For September, WROCC will have Andrew Rawnsley as their guest speaker on the 2nd, covering RISC OS Developments and talking about the 64-bit issue, Bristol RISC OS Users (BRU) will meet up on the 10th, ROUGOL on the 21st, and the next ‘fireside chat’ for developers will take place on 26th September.
Further ahead, the next show that will take place is the London Show, which will take place on 24th October, and after that the next show is RISC OS North, taking place on 10th April, 2027.
