Developers’ fireside chat – 1st March

Saturday, 1st March, is the next date to circle in your diaries if you have any interest in software development on or for the RISC OS platform – or even of RISC OS itself. That’s the date on which the next ‘friendly fireside chat’ is scheduled to take place.

Taking place online using Zoom and with a start time of around 7:30pm, the purpose of these virtual gatherings is to provide people who have an interest in programming and any related spheres with a way to discuss the topic, with a focus on RISC OS.

The meetings do not follow a predefined agenda, and are instead guided by what those who join wish to discuss. Participants might see the latest works in progress from other developers, or seek advice on how to achieve something that’s been puzzling them, provide that very advice to someone else, and so on.

As such the meetings are open to anyone, no matter what their level of programming ability – from novices and newcomers to experienced experts; all are welcome – the only real requirement being an interest in the broad subject of development on/for/of RISC OS.

Well, that and the ability to join – for that you’ll need a platform on which you can run the Zoom software and an internet connection – a chair by the side of a fire is entirely optional – and the meeting credentials. For the last item, if you’ve joined one of these chats before, you’ll have them already; they remain the same. If you haven’t, though, here’s how you can get them:

  • You can contact Andrew McCarthy on Twitter or Mastodon – or indeed from your RISC OS computer using ChatCube.
  • Or you can send an email to me here in the RISCOSitory bunker. Please note, though, that any emails sent to me on the day of the meeting itself will not receive a reply until very close to the meeting’s start time!
