Impression User Manual – Bound!

And more updates to RingBind

When Chris Hall announced version 0.20 of his RingBind application, which allows (specially converted) documents to be viewed on the desktop as though they are physical tomes on the desk, he made available a beta version of his current work-in-progress – a conversion of the Impression User Manual.

Chris now reports that the manual is ‘finished’, though with a caveat that he hasn’t yet finished creating the links in 11 of the 12 pages of the Index. (Clicking on a link in a document displayed in the RingBind application will take you straight to the page in question).

A zip file containing both the RingBind and PDF versions of the manual can be downloaded from Chris’ website – and it also contains a copy of RingBind itself to view the manual in that format.

Although not mentioned in Chris’ message – which was specifically about the Impression manual – it appears RingBind itself has been updated since the previous post on RISCOSitory. It is now at version 0.28, having had a bug or two fixed, gained a toolbar, the option to show or hide page to page links, and the ability to be directed to a particular page from outside the application via a WIMP message.

Also mentioned in Chris’ announcement was the RISC OS 5.30 User Guide. He’d previously mentioned that he was progressing slowly through the long job of adding some 3,195 links, and in the RISCOSitory post I remarked that he ought to find a way to automate the process. It seems he partly had, having automated the process of placing the ‘link boxes’ – the long job was establishing where the links should point.

And it seems that job is now complete, with all 3,195 links in place. The volume will be made available in due course via !Store.
