The next ‘friendly fireside chat’ will take place on Saturday, 26th April1, offering anyone with an interest in RISC OS development the chance to get together (online) and discuss anything and everything related to that topic.
There is no set agenda to these meetings; matters discussed are determined by what those in attendance bring up, and are an ideal opportunity for people with programming problems to ask for advice from people more experienced. Recent meetings have, for example, seen group efforts to track down problems with a Python program, advice given on rendering draw images to sprites to speed up an animation, and so on.
If you have a project you are working on, these meetings could also serve as an opportunity to show off where you are so far, and possibly get some feedback and helpful suggestions.
The meetings are open to anyone, from beginner to pro – all that matters is your interest in programming on (or for) RISC OS.
The meeting will take place from around 7:30pm, using the Zoom video conferencing software. All you need to join is a device capable of running the software, and the meeting credentials. If you’ve joined one of these chats before, those details remain the same. If you haven’t, though, here’s how you can get them:
- You can contact Andrew McCarthy on Twitter or Mastodon – or indeed from your RISC OS computer using ChatCube.
- Or you can send an email to me here in the RISCOSitory bunker. Please note, though, that any emails sent to me on the day of the meeting itself will not receive a reply until very close to the meeting’s start time!

- That is – purely by coincidence and not at all discussed at the last meeting when deciding on a date for this one (ahem) – the same day that the ARM processor celebrates its 40th birthday, and therefore ten years to the day since RISCOSitory celebrated the CPU’s 30th! Doesn’t time fly?
