Markdown your Currency app in version 2.07

Kevin Wells has released a new version of Currency, his application that provides a way to check exchange rates for different currencies, as well as the GDP (gross domestic product) and population information for different countries, without having the struggle of dealing with websites that may not work in RISC OS browsers.

It does this by using Wget to relay information to the API (application programmer interface) provided by a remote website, and parsing the results in order to display it for the user. The websites it uses are Exchange Rates Data API from APILayer for the exchange rate data, and World Bank for the population and GDP information.

Note that you will need an API key to be able to use the services of APILayer, for which there is a free tier for a low number of requests per month.

The new version of Currency – v2.07 – which sees the gain of a Markdown option when exporting data. Markdown is a plain text markup language, which recognises certain characters within the text to indicate formatting, such as asterisks and hash characters. The format is supported by a number of web forums, and even some text editing software, so being able to export in Markdown may make it more convenient to then copy the results into such forums.

If you find any of Kevin’s software useful, why not consider rewarding him for it by buying some merchandise or with a small contribution.
