Tonight (17th August) is when the next RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) meeting will take place, and like last month’s meeting it hasn’t been possible to arrange a guest speaker, so the meeting will again be an open one for general discussion of all things RISC OS.
Following the group’s own record of having eighteen consecutive meetings with a guest speaker, this month sees the group’s second consecutive meeting without one – I’ll have to check with Bryan Hogan, who organises the meetings, to find out if is another record for the group, or at least the beginning of one! 😉
Being more serious, though, the lack of a guest speaker is at least partly the reason for the lateness of ROUGOL’s announcement. Bryan even put out a last minute plea on Bluesky in search of someone to talk to the group, clearly to no avail. With that in mind, the group is always looking for potential speakers, so if you have a RISC OS project you’d like to talk about and show off, or perhaps something tangential to the operating system that might interest its users, such as something related to the BBC Micro, for example, consider getting in touch with ROUGOL to make the necessary arrangements. Alternatively, if there’s a topic you’d like see covered by a talk, but don’t have the knowledge or expertise yourself, consider letting the group know and they can try to find someone who is able to talk about it.
As usual, the meeting will be a hybrid one, with some people meeting in the Duke of Sussex pub, and others joining online via Zoom. If you can make it to the venue, your destination is:
The Duke of Sussex
(Upstairs in the Chichester or Petworth Room)
23 Baylis Road,
London,
SE1 7AY.
There are directions to the venue on the ROUGOL website, and you can expect to find members lurking from around 6:30pm. The meeting proper will commence from around 7:45pm.
If If you are instead joining online you’ll need the log-in credentials, which remain the same as previous meetings – so if you’ve already joined one you should have them, but if not you can get them by contacting ROUGOL. The Zoom meeting should be open for people to join from around 7:30pm.
And don’t forget that the RISC OS London Show, organised by ROUGOL, will be taking place this year on 24th October, at the Harrow District Masonic Centre in Kenton, London.
