CardInfo 1.03 released

Kevin Wells has released an update to his CardInfo application that uses Wget to look up information online about our flexible friends, using a remote Application Programmer Interface (API).

Given the first six digits of a bank card number, it will relay that data to the BIN (Bank Identification Number) Checker API, which is provided by API Layer). The returned information is then displayed, which will include things like the issuing bank, its country, and so on.

The first change in version 1.03 of the software is that it recognises two additional card types – American Express and Enroute. Other changes are more under the hood, to cope with aspects of the API and service provider. One part of that, for example, is that the application will need an API key – a special code that grants you access to the services provided by API layer, and with that you may only have a certain number of ‘calls’ to the system, so this is now recorded.

If you find any of Kevin’s software useful, why not consider rewarding him for it by buying some merchandise or with a small contribution.
