Initially launched at the recent London Show, and now available to buy from !Store, the latest title from AMCOG Games is Hugh Bowman PI.
In the game-noir, you play a private investigator called Hugh Bowman, and can take on one of three cases – all of which involve breaking into Professor Von Sparks’ compound. Once in, you can drive around the area, and enter individual buildings to search for clues and – eventually, hopefully – solve the case.
In the compound itself, there are robots to avoid, although they temporarily deactivate when you’re out of your car and inside a building – presumably because they no longer detect the movement of your car. However, there are more robots patrolling within the buildings, so you have to avoid these while searching filing cabinets, desks, and so on, to find the clues and other useful items – which include lift reset cards, keys, robot freeze cards – that will help you with your quest.
With enough clues found, you can try using the phone to relay your solution, and you’ll be told how close you are to solving the case.
The game features three cunning cases, four original music tracks, high definition graphics, multiple modes of play, sound effects and voice samples – both played courtesy of RDSP – joystick support for RISC OS 5 on the Raspberry Pi, and more.
It’s compatible with RISC OS 4.02 and 5, on a variety of platforms – a full breakdown can be found on the game’s page on AMCOG’s site – and costs £14.99.
Hugh Bowman is AMCOG’s 23rd release, and comes out towards the end of Tony Bartram’s tenth year of game development on RISC OS, starting with Overlord, released all the way back in 2015 at the Wakefield. Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun playing games?
