As the gap between ‘now’ and the London Show shrinking more and more – for the benefit of anyone who has been living in a hermit’s cave, it’s this coming Saturday (24th October) – another announcement has landed in the RISCOSitory inbox. This one is from R-Comp:
R-Comp is pleased to announce a new version of their founding program – HTMLEdit. The new version 6.5 includes numerous updates throughout the suite of programs focusing on compatibility with modern ARMv8 computers (Pi4, RK3399), as well as introducing some HTML 5 features. These new introductions replace now-obsolete browser-plugins (shockwave, flash etc) for a more useful application.
HTMLEdit is now supplied as a suite of programs – HTMLEdit Studio – and across the suite there have been many improvements – new versions of most of HTMLEdit and the Web Designer’s Toolkit are included. WebMapper has been converted from assembler to C to make updates easier, and HTML-aware spellchecker WebSpell now incorporates HTMLEdit’s syntax colouring whilst checking your web pages.
The old Textures software has been replaced by the full Textures Pro suite (modern version) and SiteMaster and the Web Designer’s Toolkit are both present and correct also.
A new addition to the suite is RISCsurf which is intended to replace the old WebsterXL (still included for old-times’ sake) when developing pages. RISCsurf implements HTMLEdit’s dynamic preview protocols and auto-refresh so that the two can work together to give the best experience when editing web pages. Based on NetSurf, RISCsurf implements the HTMLEdit protcols as well as adding addition CSS support and updated Javascript. Source code is supplied in accordance with Netsurf’s GPL requirements.
RISCsurf isn’t intended as an online browser (although it can be used as such) but rather integrates with HTMLEdit (and the other tools) to smooth the experience of developing and testing websites. The modern feature set means that you can create CSS-based pages in line with current standards.
Meanwhile, various additional tools are included for converting various types of files, images and documents (inc Ovation Pro and Fireworkz).
Since it has been a long time since HTMLEdit 6 launched, we’ve decided to offer a “blanket” upgrade price – anyone who ever used HTMLEdit can upgrade on !Store for £20.00 using the Special Instruction code UPGRADE, no questions asked.
The software costs £39.00 for a new copy.
