The latest issue (37:7) of the WROCC (Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club) newsletter has been sent out, and tucked away within it at the bottom of page five is a piece of show news: The next Wakefield Show will take place on Saturday, 18th April, 20201. That’s the weekend after Easter and exactly eight weeks after the next Southwest Show, itself seventeen weeks after the London Show – which is two weeks from today.
No specifics about opening times, entry fees, etc., are mentioned, but you can expect them to be along similar lines to the last show, which was open to the public from 10:30am until 4:30pm, with a ticket price of £5.00). The venue, on the oher hand, was specified, and will once again be:
The Cedar Court Hotel,
Denby Dale Road,
Calder Grove,
Wakefield,
WF4 3QX.
The announcement notes that the first show – also in the Cedar Court Hotel – was held in 1996, making this the twenty fifth such event that the group has organised (and I’d also add that the twenty sixth show, if it goes ahead in 2021, will be twenty five years after the first). The group is therefore considering ways to celebrate it – so if you have any ideas, why not get in touch with them?
The newsletter itself is one of the benefits of club membership, which costs £15.00 per year after the first year of membership – with that first year costing just £7.50. It is delivered by email as a PDF file, and usually includes a write up of a previous meeting, along with a little news and a feature article. Even if you can’t attend club meetings – entry to which is free for members, and costs £3.00 for non-members – it’s worth thinking about joining for the newsletter alone.
- Having not yet finished the write up of the 2019 show, I may as well now delete the paragraph from the draft in which I suggested the most likely dates for a 2020 show would be either the 18th or 25th April, putting it between the Easter weekend, and the first May bank holiday.
