It’s the last day of August, and it happens – thankfully – to fall on an official holiday, so it’s time to give the new trial feature its second outing, and look at what RISC OS-related meetings and events are coming up in September.
Please note that any meeting dates listed below could change, so please be sure to keep an eye on websites, mailing lists, and news sites in case of any last minute changes!
Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC) meeting – 2nd September, 7:45pm
WROCC usually meets up online, using Zoom, on the first Wednesday of each month, and the next meeting will feature Andrew Rawnsley, wearing his RISC OS Developments hat, discussing and demystifying the road towards a 64-bit RISC OS.
Bristol RISC OS Users (BRU) – 10th September, 7:00pm-ish
BRU meets up on the second Thursday of every other month in The Open Arms pub, St Michael’s Hill, Bristol, aiming for around 7:00pm or so. The meetings are very informal, with no guest speakers, and instead are more like a group of people meeting up for a pint and a chinwag – and sometimes they even talk about RISC OS!
Wessex ARM User Group (WAUG) meeting – 12th September, 10:30am
WAUG usually meets online, using Zoom, on the second Saturday of the month. These meetings are much more informal than those with guest speakers, and are more a group of RISC OS users (or ex-users) who get together online and have a general discussion, which may not even touch much upon RISC OS itself.
RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) meeting – 21st September, 7:45pm
ROUGOL usually holds hybrid meetings – on Zoom for the online cohort, and in a pub for the in-person cohort – on the third Monday of each month. Although there isn’t always a guest speaker, the group has just broken its own record with a run of some 18 months with one. No details are available yet for who may be speaking this month.
Fireside chat for developers – 26th September, 7:45pm
These meetings, which are held online using Zoom, are for anyone with an interest in RISC OS development – be that the operating system itself, software for use on it, or anything tangential to that – and provide a way to get together and discuss any issues, seek (or offer) advice, and so on. They don’t feature guest speakers and have no set agenda, instead being guided by whatever the participants bring up.
Looking beyond the coming month
For October, WROCC’s meeting will take place on the 7th, but there is currently no guest speaker lined up, WAUG’s meeting will be on the 10th, and ROUGOL’s on the 19th.
Further ahead, the next show that will take place is the London Show, which will take place on 24th October, and after that the next show is RISC OS North, taking place on 10th April, 2027.
