Prophet 4.15 brings mobility

Or, at least, the ability to keep in touch with someone on the move!

A new version of Prophet has been released by Elesar. The software – originally published by Quinten Pain’s Apricote Studios, and now looked after by Rob Sprowson’s company – is an accounts and stock management package, designed to handle all the financial record keeping needed by a business, including the ability to submit VAT returns under Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.

The key change since version 4.14 is the addition of a field for a mobile phone number in the supplier and customer databases, along with all the existing contact fields.

This field is fully usable if you have the necessary equipment in place and connected to your RISC OS machine. For example, if you have caller ID hardware, the field can be ‘consulted’ so that the kit shows the associated name, or if a suitable modem connected it can be used to dial the number for you – and it can even generate the necessary dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) tones that trigger a number to be called when played into some types of phone.

Additionally, the field is recognised and included when exporting (and importing to) the database as comma separated values with ‘Output all fields’ selected, which means it can be preserved when transferring the data to or from another database.

Another change to the software is that an extra check is now made to ensure AcornURI is running, which is necessary for the MTD functionality to work – previously, the check was that the module was loaded.

Finally, there have been three other minor bug fixes and updates.

If you are operating a business and want to handle from the accounts side of things from RISC OS, Prophet is available from Elesar at just £74.00 plus VAT (£88.80), with a further 25% discount if you’re buying any 3.xx version prior to Elesar’s initial release. If you wish to add the MTD module, that’s available for an additional £55.00 plus VAT (£66.00) – just select the relevant option on the ordering page.

If you’re already using an Elesar edition of the software, you can update to version 4.15 for free – just run the installer program again and it’ll download and install the new version over the old one.
