Christmas to come early for RISC OS users

The RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) announced barely a week ago that, sadly, they are not going to be able to proceed with this year’s London Show; the usual venue isn’t available, and they have been unable to find an alternative. This wasn’t entirely surprising – they were also unable to proceed last year, and they aren’t the only group to have faced struggles organising their annual event recently; the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC) also had problems with their annual event, but luckily did manage to find an alternative for 2022, and used it again this year.

However, thanks to the Midlands user Group (MUG), the next show will still be this year – although it could be said that the wait between Wakefield and the MUG replacement could be said to be like waiting for Christmas – if Christmas came a couple of weeks earlier!

Why? Because it’s The MUG RISC OS Xmas Market!

Sponsored by Soft Rock Software and RISCOSitory, the event will take place on Saturday, 9th December, at:

Dodderhill Parish Community Hall,
(formerly known as Wychbold Village Hall),
School Road,
Wychbold,
WR9 7PU.

The doors will be open to visitors from 11:30am until 4:00pm, and there will be no entry fee – you can come in, talk to your favourite exhibitors, wander around and talk to others… all for the grand old sum of £0.00!1

The list of exhibitors currently includes Soft Rock Software/RISCOSitory, Wi-Fi Sheep, RISCOSbits, RISC OS Open Ltd, Elesar Ltd, and Chris Hall – keep an eye on the website for news of more as they confirm.

The hall is easy to reach by car – it’s just half a mile from Junction 5 of the M5 – and there is some on site parking. For people coming by public transport, there are railway stations in Droitwich and Bromsgrove, and from those there are buses that head through Wychbold.

If you want to stay overnight, there are a number of hotels in the area, including a Holiday Inn Express and a Travelodge very near to the venue, and there are also a number of choices for somewhere to eat.

There are directions and more details of hotels, etc. on the event’s website.
