Announcement from Andrew Rawnsley, 4th April, 2014. R-Comp Interactive have recently written to users of RISCube and RISCBook computer systems regarding the imminent end-of-life of Windows XP (April 8th). Breaking news: Uploads from RISC OS going to the spooks

How the British security services gained access to YOUR emails. The news over the last few years has been awash with revelations about security services not only being able to ‘listen in’ on people’s communications, but that they are actively doing so, and even archiving that material. If it’s communicated electronically, there is every chance that it’s sitting in a database somewhere. For future reference. For the good of the country, and all that.

Thanks to a previous engagement being cancelled, an unexpectedly free day means I can – finally – root through my archive of possible news and put together a snippets-post of things that really ought to have been reported on before now on RISCOSitory.

What a show – London 2012

Pinch me, I must be dreaming! First of all, I must apologise for the very long delay in producing this show report and keeping up with RISC OS news in general. The reason for this has been a combination of the usual workload (with the period after this show normally being one of my busy ones) with some health issues thrown in for good measure, including a short but unexpected – and very unwelcome – stay in hospital. The most recent significant event in the RISC OS Calendar took place…

ImpEmail becomes a separate product

Mail-merging email software spreads its wings. Back in April, at this years Wakefield Show, Sine Nomine Software introduced ImpEmail. a tool that worked alonside (and was therefore supplied with) their relational database, Impact, to create mail-merged emails. However, a new version of the module has just been announced, and this version marks the availability of ImpEmail as a separate product.

RaspberryJams

A better late than never introduction for the RISC OS world to the #RaspberryJam RISC OS users should by now need no introduction to the Raspberry Pi – but in case there is anyone reading this who has been living as a hermit for the last few years with no access to the internet (or any other news sources) in their cave, it is a very small, incredibly cheap computer based around a Broadcom BCM2835 ‘System on a Chip’ (or SoC). The heart of that SoC is an ARM processor,…

ArtWorks 2.X2 arrives

Straight up! Or curved a bit, with a variable width and graduated fill! For what may have been a first, this year’s Wakefield Show saw Martin Wuerthner demonstrating a new version of ArtWorks that wasn’t actually ready for sale – though he expected it to become available soon after. After only a very short time, ‘soon after’ has arrived, and Martin has announced the availability of that new version. ArtWorks 2.X2 introduces a major new feature, in the form of ‘Artistic Lines’, which presents the user with many new creative…
