Escape from the Arcade now available from !Store

The latest addition to the AMCOG Games catalogue was initially launched at the recent Wakefield Show, and it is now available to buy from !Store for just £10.99. That game is Escape from the Arcade – something you wouldn’t have to do if you didn’t get trapped inside an arcade machine, and that happened because you chose to play a faulty machine. Oops. Damn those dimensional faults – and damn your foolish ignorance of the warning sign!

Show report: London 2018

Just in time for Wakefield! With half of a year having passed since the London Show (and the Wakefield Show almost upon us), the RISCOSitory report is more than a little overdue – again! The usual main excuse applies, which is that it’s always busy here in the bunker, and some things have to be put off in favour of other, more important tasks. However, it is now the turn of that task to be used to put off other less important things – so here, at long last, is…

Show report: Wakefield 2018

That’s last year’s record for a long-delayed show report broken! This year’s Wakefield Show took place on 21st April, at the Cedar Court Hotel, organised by the local user group – the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC). Like last year, I must apologise for another long-delayed RISCOSitory show report. As ever, this is mainly because of how busy I am outside the world of RISC OS, but also because I wanted to edit down my video recordings of the theatre talks to a more manageable length – and video…

AMCOG’s Stunt Drivers now available

AMCOG Games launched a new title at the London Show two weeks ago, and it is now available to purchase via !Store, priced at just £9.99. A top-down racing game, Stunt Drivers pits you as a driver in a three-lap race against a number of computer controlled cars around a track on which there are obstacles to overcome – hazards such as oil spills, and ramps for you to use to jump over other objects.

London Show snippets

As everyone in RISC OS land should know by now, this year’s London Show will take place tomorrow at the St Giles Hotel in Feltham. With my exhibitor hat on, I get very busy in the run up to a show – and I also deal with trying to get any last minute news posted here before the show takes place. But, as ever, it depends largely on the news being sent to me in the first place – not all of it is. With that in mind, I’ve done…

Dickie Brickie jumps from 8-bits to 32

A brand new version of an old game has made its way to !Store, where it can be downloaded free of charge, thanks to the efforts of Jeroen Vermeulen. Originally published as a type-in listing in volume 8, issue 1 of The Micro User, which hit newsagents’ shelves in 1990, Dickie Brickie was written by Mike Goldberg – one of six that he had published in the magazine. Twenty eight years on, Jeroen has released a RISC OS remake of the game, written using the AMCOG Development Kit by Tony…

Show report: Southwest 2018

Better late than never, but not as late as last year – so that’s something, right? This year’s Southwest Show took place on Saturday, 24th February, at the Webbington Hotel and Spa – the same venue at which it has been held every year since its inception. This year’s show was therefore the 21st, marking twenty years since the very first one, held in February 1998. There was therefore cake – which you missed out on if you didn’t come to the show, and which everyone who was present enjoyed.…

RISC OS Awards 2017 results

The latest RISC OS Awards poll, covering 2017, came to a close a on Saturday, 26th May – and the results are now known. The Awards website has been updated to show the results, and the winners (for whom I have contact details) will be notified by email later today, with direct links to the results so that they can be referred to on the their own websites. The results have already been announced on the RISCOSitory Twitter feed, but for anyone not using Twitter they are below.

Font Directory Pro update reaches The Village

Can now be used by Number 6. I mean on RISC OS 6! A new version of Font Directory Pro has been released by Elesar Ltd, bringing the software up to version 3.22. Originally developed and sold by LOOKsystems and now being looked after by Elesar, Font Directory Pro is a popular font management package, and makes it much easier to deal with large collections of fonts than it would otherwise be using the standard font manager that comes as part of RISC OS. The package is actually a suite…

Show report: London 2017

The question on everyone’s lips for countless years to come will be “Where were you on 28th October, 2017?” Okay, they probably won’t be asking that – but I’m asking it now. Well? Where were you? I’ll tell you where I was: Feltham. More specifically, the St Giles Hotel – in the conference rooms on the first floor, where this year’s London Show was held. If you weren’t there, I’ll assume you’re reading this because you have an interest in RISC OS, and would like to know what you missed.…
