Impact 3.45 released

Sorted menu fields are the order of the day. Sine Nomine Software have released a new version of Impact, their relational database package. Welcome to PandaLand!

Everything for one panda! R-Comp, who last year brought out the ARMini computer, based around a BeagleBoard-xM and subsequently launched a software support scheme for BeagleBoard owners wishing to run RISC OS on their devices, have now produced a similar scheme for PandaBoard owners – with the potentially puntastic name of PandaLand! The new scheme is intended to provide PandaBoard owners with software and operating system components with a degree of support – something that isn’t really there if you opt for the DIY approach of performing a self-install of…

Impulse module updated after 10 years

Apps can’t help acting on impulse. The Impulse module was originally released by Computer Concepts (now Xara), and was in part the result of the company’s plans to develop a replacement for Arthur, the operating system used on the Archimedes computers before Acorn brought out RISC OS 2. The module provides a mechanism for inter-application communications, command execution and data transfer, and is used by databases such as Impact and Powerbase in conjunction with Impression, ImpEmail and Ovation Pro to perform mail-merges and produce reports. Until now, the most recent…

New version of Impact available

Keep tabs on your data. And probably in it, as well. Following its launch at the recent Wakefield Show, Sine Nomine software has now made the new version of Impact available from their website, along with the new accompanying application ImpEmail. Originally developed by John Skingley of Circle Software, and taken over in 2003 by Matthew and Hilary Phillips of Sine Nomine, Impact is a relational database for RISC OS, which is easy to use and provides facilities to create, edit, import and edit information, and features the ability to…

David Pilling address change

RIP PO Box 22. After 25 years of service, David Pilling – developer of Spark, Ovation Pro, and much more, has announced that he is no longer operating the PO Box for postal communications, such as purchasing his software using a cheque. On what David describes as “the very light cone of software development” upgrades to all his software can be found on his website, along with the ability to purchase using a credit card, and support is provided by email.

Wakefield 2012 show report

Yet another better late than never report! The last fortnight or so has been a busy one for me, and a major contributor to that has been the annual Wakefield Show, organised as usual by the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC), and held at the Cedar Court Hotel. The show took place on Saturday 28th April, 2012, and it made me busy in the week running up to it because I decided I’d have something new(ish) on show (more on that later), and in the week following it because…

Drag ‘n Drop drops onto your doormats

Well, it does if the hard drive you download it onto is named ‘doormat’. Just ahead of the 2012 Wakefield Show, which takes place on Saturday, 28th April, Paul Stewart has published the latest issue of his PDF-based RISC OS magazine, Drag ‘n Drop. Features in this bumper 53 page issue include an in-depth, personal retrospective of the 8-bit games scene, along with reviews of two new games from Retro Software, the next parts in the two programming series “All Sorted” and “RISC OS Programming in BASIC”, along with the…

Impact 3.40 now available

A new version of Sine Nomine‘s relational database application, Impact, is now available. A commercial product, the software is now at version 3.40, and is available as a free upgrade to anyone who has purchased version 3.37 or later – with users of versions 3.37 to 3.39 urged to download and install the upgrade as soon as possible, since it fixes “a nasty bug in card design mode, which was only present in those versions.” In addition to this, there are lots of other bug fixes and minor improvements in…
