Better late than never, but not as late as last year – so that’s something, right? This year’s Southwest Show took place on Saturday, 24th February, at the Webbington Hotel and Spa – the same venue at which it has been held every year since its inception. This year’s show was therefore the 21st, marking twenty years since the very first one, held in February 1998. There was therefore cake – which you missed out on if you didn’t come to the show, and which everyone who was present enjoyed.…

News nybble: qoppa loada this website generator
Gavin Wraith has released a new tool for generating websites and updating individual web pages. Called Qoppa, the application is – unsurprisingly – built on RiscLua, and it will parse the directory in which it is placed, generating web pages from those files. The files can contain HTML or some limited ‘markdown’, get a default but customisable header and footer added, and link to a simple – but again customisable – CSS file. The output location is specified in a system variable, and if any of the files are updated,…
The Wakefield Show is almost here
It’s where the discerning RISC OS user will be on Saturday, 21st April. It’s now only a little over a week until this year’s Wakefield Show takes place – so let’s take a quick look at what’s in store for you, the discerning RISC OS user in question. Getting some important details out of the way first, the show will take place at its regular venue:
Show report: London 2017
The question on everyone’s lips for countless years to come will be “Where were you on 28th October, 2017?” Okay, they probably won’t be asking that – but I’m asking it now. Well? Where were you? I’ll tell you where I was: Feltham. More specifically, the St Giles Hotel – in the conference rooms on the first floor, where this year’s London Show was held. If you weren’t there, I’ll assume you’re reading this because you have an interest in RISC OS, and would like to know what you missed.…
News nybble: Access Photoshop PSD files
Plus a new version of rRaw. PhShpLyrs is an application from Anton Reiser that makes it possible to pull the image and individual layers from a Photoshop PSD file and save them as a RISC OS-native image format. There are some limitations as to the type of PSD file, but when such a file is loaded into the application it allows the main image and any layers to be saved as sprites (with a full alpha channel). It’s also possible to wrap all of the layers (though not the main…
News nybble: See Titanium exceeding 2,048 pixels at London
R-Comp Interactive will be demonstrating one of their TiMachine computers driving a 2560×1440 display at the London Show on Saturday. The Titanium system board on which the TiMachine is based is normally limited to 2048 horizontal pixels, but because it has two video outputs – intended to drive two displays side by side – it’s possible to get around the limitation with some clever trickery, if you have the right monitor. R-Comp, at the show, will have the right monitor. The updated version of DualHead – the software supplied by…
Wakefield’s on the horizon – so what’s in store?
This year’s Wakefield Show takes place on 22nd April, so it’s time for a brief look at what’s in store for visitors – and judging by what’s on the show website, along with other factors, it very much looks as though there could be something interesting afoot. The starting point for suggesting that is a 4th April entry in the “latest news” on the show website’s front page, which notes that a short additional slot has been added at the start of the day’s talks in the show theatre. Being…
CloudFS efficiency boosted in version 0.24
‘Transactions’ when copying files reduced from a downpour to a drizzle. A new version of CloudFS is available from Elesar Ltd, the main benefit of which is improved efficiency. CloudFS provides RISC OS with access to remote, cloud-based storage, by integrating with OmniClient so that to the user it appears like a native filing system. The software currently works with just one cloud provider, pCloud, who are based in Switzerland and offer 10GB of free storage, with a range of price plans if you need more. In time it is…
Show report: London 2016
Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor London? This year’s RISC OS London Show took place on 29th October, and while it wasn’t as large as last year’s event (which I’ll discuss near the end of this report) it was still an enjoyable and worthwhile one. So, without any further preamble, here is a run down of what visitors could have seen, working clockwise from the entrance.
Introducing the ‘news nybble’ – an experimental new post format for RISCOSitory
A change is as good as a rest, and boy do I need a rest! A perennial problem faced here in the bunker is one of time – the one most people will understand: A lack of it. Busy periods have become more and more frequent, and seem to go on for longer, and during those periods publishing news on this site can become quite a headache.
