News nybble: Elesar brings serial and parallel ports to the Pi

Hats off to Elesar – and on to the Raspberry Pi, since this is a HAT! Details are now available about Elesar Ltd‘s mystery product that was expected to be launched at the London Show – the S&P HAT for the Raspberry Pi. A HAT is a standard for Raspberry Pi expansion boards, and is an acronym that expands to ‘Hardware Attached on Top’, while the S&P part comes from Elesar, and stands for ‘Serial and Parallel’. In other words, it’s an add-on board for the Pi that provides the…

News nybble: Titanium + DDE = October offer from Elesar

My calculator doesn’t seem to like that calculation, but it’s definitely right. Following last month’s offer of five games for the price of none when purchasing a Titanium motherboard, October sees another piece of software up for grabs from Elesar Ltd when purchasing their flagship product. This time, the offer is for a free full copy of RISC OS Open Ltd‘s Desktop Development Environment. The DDE (which is how it’s known to its friends) is normally priced at £50 including VAT, and includes a C compiler, ARM assembler, GUI resource…

The guest speaker for the next Midlands User Group meeting is to be Rob Sprowson, who will be popping in to talk about all things Elesar Ltd, with its growing range of both hardware and software. Elesar Ltd comes to the rescue while Piccolo Systems’ website is down

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No… it’s Supersprow! (Imagine there’s exciting music here!) Earlier this year, the Piccolo Systems website became the victim of hacking/hijacking, with the site as we knew it vanishing, apparently to be replaced by one providing a home to malware. Ben Avison is reported to have said he was aware of the issue, but working out how best to bring the site back online was taking time – and this all happened at a bad time, because of a house move. Any sign…

News nybble: Elesar once again offering click and collect for Wakefield

Elesar Ltd is once again offering a ‘click and collect’ service for the Wakefield Show, with RISC OS Open Logistics transporting any goods ordered under the scheme for collection by punters at the event. To take advantage of the scheme, you simply need to select the relevant shipping method when ordering; it should say something to the effect of “Pick up from Wakefield Show” Elesar’s Rob Sprowson informs me that the cut off time is likely to be noon on Friday, giving RISC OS Open “time to battle the Cambridge…

News nybble: Elesar releases Font Directory Pro

In January, Elesar‘s Rob Sprowson paid a visit to the RISC OS User Group of London to talk about CloudFS, and another ‘mystery’ product, later revealed to be font management system Font Directory Pro, originally from LOOKsystems. At that point, a new version of the software was ready, and the only remaining task before it could be released was converting the large user manual. The last release from LOOKsystems was all the way back in 2003, and the new version (3.20) sees the software updated to work on newer ARM…

But if you want more details, pop along to the ROUGOL meeting on Monday! Elesar brings Black Friday to RISC OS

Not to be confused with Black Thursday1. In the Untidy States of Overpuddle2, the fourth Thursday in November is Thanksgiving, a public holiday that dates back a few hundred years. Not dating back quite so far, and not an actual holiday, the day after this has become known as Black Friday, which is considered to be the first day of the Christmas shopping season, and most large retailers have promotional sales to celebrate it.
