Escape from Exeria – a new-old game
Back in the mists of time, the first game released by Soft Rock Software was Escape from Exeria, a game in which the player navigates mazes to collect things while avoiding the bad guys – but unlike the most famous example of its kind, with an added puzzle element. Updated and re-released in the mid-1990s, the company has taken another look at it recently and given it a new lease of life.
Snippets – 1st January, 2021
A final round up of 2020 news that hasn’t found its way to RISCOSitory before I was aiming to get this final round up of news posted on the last day of 2020, but as ever other things got in the way, so what was intended as the last post of 2020 has become the first post of 2021. Still, never mind, better late than never – which should probably be the official motto here in the RISCOSitory bunker!
Re-Fused: Spectrum emulation
The computer with the infamous rubber keyboard, the Sinclair Spectrum, was a popular platform back in the early to mid-1980s; it was fairly cheap for parents to buy for their kids and, for those kids, there was never a shortage of games available for it. And despite the computer’s fairly low resolution screen, some of them were actually quite good fun.
Snippets – 10th July, 2020
While RISC OS may now be regarded as a small, niche operating system, with only a tiny fraction of the number of users that more mainstream platforms attract, it does still have a surprisingly vibrant community – so with that in mind, every once in a while I look through a selection of news groups, mailing lists, and forums, looking for announcements that haven’t found their way to me via the RISCOSitory news inbox, and from those compile a ‘snippets’ post. Here, then, is the latest selection of news items…
Show report: Southwest 2020
I don’t think anyone can possibly disagree with me when I say that 2020, so far, has been an unusual year. Most of the world is in some form of lockdown due to the SARS-CoV-2 (novel coronavirus) pandemic, with movements beyond our homes and interactions with people beyond our own households at a minimum – which means (in a RISC OS context) shows and user group meetings aren’t taking place.
Southwest Show – final round up of pre-show news
As the countdown until this year’s Southwest Show ticks over into the final twenty four hours – the show takes place tomorrow, Saturday, 22nd February at the Arnos Manor Hotel in Bristol – a few press releases and announcements have found their way to me. I can’t spend any real time crafting individual articles this time around, so instead here’s a round-up of show-related news that has come my way since I posted a show preview.
Watching YouTube videos on RISC OS (updated)
While we all love RISC OS and its user interface, we all know that it is not an operating system without problems and deficiencies, because it simply hasn’t kept up with the main platforms in a number of areas – and one such area is access to online video streaming services such as YouTube. However, all is not lost – if you have a suitable computer, there is a software solution for viewing YouTube videos on RISC OS.
Show report: London 2019
The 2019 RISC OS London Show took place on Saturday, 26th October – and once again (speaking as an exhibitor) seemed to be a buzzing, exciting show with plenty for the visitor to see and experience. It was the 11th London Show, with the first having taken place on 3rd October, 2009, and there was a good mix of exhibitors including large well known RISC OS names and smaller home-based operators. As well as many well known faces there were new ones as well, which is always welcome – and…

At the London Show last month, AMCOG Games released a new 3D-perspective game – and that game, Star Mine, is now available to purchase from !Store.
